James Watt was a Scottish inventor who played an important role in the Industrial Revolution. He wasborn in 1736 and is famous for improving the steam engine, which changed industries and transportation.
Watt loved mechanics from a young age. Even though he faced health problems and had little money, he stayed curious and hardworking. In 1763, while fixing a steam engine, he had an important idea. He realized that adding a separate part called a condenser could make the steam engine work better. This breakthrough was the start of his great inventions.
With the help of Matthew Boulton, a businessman, Watt developed his improved steam engine. In 1769, he got permission to make and sell it. His steam engine was very useful in industries like mining, textile making, and transportation. It helped factories, mills, and ships work faster and cheaper, making it an important part of the Industrial Revolution.
Watt didn't stop improving his steam engine. He made it safer, stronger, and cheaper to use. Because of his steam engine, production in factories became faster, and goods became cheaper. Many people moved from villages to cities to work in factories powered by steam. Steam-powered trains and ships also made travel and transporting goods easier.
James Watt's work is still remembered today. The unit of power, the watt, was named in his honour, recognising his pioneering contributions to science and engineering. He overcame many problems to make important inventions and inspire future generations.

Read the following passage about and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 26 to 35.
Global warming is one of the most pressing issues of our time, caused by a rapid increase in greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. (I) Human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas, release large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air. (II) These gases trap heat from the sun, creating a "greenhouse effect" that warms the planet. (III) While the Earth's climate has changed throughout history, the current rate of warming is unprecedented and poses serious challenges. (IV)
The impacts of global warming are far-reaching. Rising temperatures are causing polar ice caps and glaciers to melt, leading to higher sea levels. This puts coastal cities and low-lying areas at risk of flooding. Additionally, warmer oceans can intensify hurricanes and other extreme weather events. Changes in temperature and rainfall patterns disrupt ecosystems, threatening wildlife and leading to biodiversity loss. Global warming also affects agriculture, with heatwaves and droughts making it harder to grow crops in some regions.
Addressing global warming requires urgent action. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is key to decelerating climate change. Governments, industries, and individuals all have roles to play. Transitioning to renewable energy sources like solar and wind power can significantly cut emissions. Protecting forests, which absorb CO 2, and investing in energy-efficient technologies are also critical. By working together and adopting sustainable practices, we can mitigate the effects of global warming and secure a healthier future for our planet.
Question 26. Where in paragraph 1 does the following sentence best fit?
"Scientists have long warned about the dangers of increasing greenhouse gas concentrations."

B. Cutting emissions is the most important step to fight climate change.
C. Climate change can be stopped only by controlling greenhouse gases.
D. Slowing climate change partially depends on reducing greenhouse gases.
Question 34. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?
A. Renewable energy is the only solution to global warming.
B. If we don't act quickly, global warming will cause permanent damage.
C. Governments have already done enough to stop global warming.
