UNIT 1: LIFE STORIES WE ADMIRE
LESSON 7: COMMUNICATION AND CULTURE / CLIL
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- Listen to and provide model conversations in which speakers express pleasure and respond to it.
- Review and appropriately use idiomatic expressions for expressing pleasure (e.g., I'm on top of the world, on cloud nine, over the moon).
- Read for specific information to learn about the lives of three famous queens in world history (Cleopatra VII, Elizabeth I, Catherine II).
- Relate the knowledge of famous global queens to the history of their own country by discussing famous women in Vietnamese history.
2. Competences
General competences:
- Self-control and independent learning: Read actively and synthesize information into a comparison table.
- Communication and collaboration: Work effectively in pairs to role-play conversations and in groups to discuss historical figures.

- Develop speaking skills through contextualized role-play.

EVERYDAY ENGLISH – Expressing pleasure and responding to it.
Activity 1: Listen and complete the conversations with the expressions in the box. Then practise them in pairs.
a. Objective: To provide model conversations in which speakers express pleasure, and respond to it, and to review expressions for expressing pleasure and responding.
b. Content: Students listen to the recording, complete the blanks with the expressions in the box, and practice the conversations.
c. Product: Students correctly fill in the blanks and practice reading the dialogue with correct intonation.

Activity 1: Read the following text and complete the comparison table on page 18.
a. Objective: To help students learn about the lives of three famous queens in world history.

- Teacher assigns the homework project: Choose one famous woman from Vietnamese history or modern society that you deeply admire (e.g., Vo Thi Sau, Nguyen Thi Binh, or even a contemporary female scientist/athlete).
- Task: Write a short profile (about 5 sentences) explaining who she is, one major achievement she had, and write one sentence expressing how you feel about her achievements using an expression of pleasure learned today (e.g., I am over the moon when I read about her success).
Step 2: Students perform learning tasks
- Students write down the instructions in their notebooks.
- Students use digital design tools (e.g., Canva, PowerPoint) to create a visually appealing digital profile poster of the heroine.
- Students use an AI writing assistant to help refine their English text or an AI image generator to generate an illustrative portrait for their profile (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini,...).
