LESSON 6: WRITING
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- Write an opinion essay (about 180 words) about the impact of celebrating world festivals on young Vietnamese people.
- Generate and organize ideas about the positive and negative impacts of world festivals.
2. Competences
General competences:
- Self-control and independent learning: brainstorm ideas, structure an essay, and complete writing tasks independently.
- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs or groups to discuss ideas, peer-review classmates' drafts, and provide constructive feedback.
Specific competences:
- Categorize points into positive and negative impacts.
- Structure a one-sided argumentative essay correctly (Introduction - Reason 1 - Reason 2 - Conclusion).

2. PRESENTATION
Activity 1: Work in pairs. Decide whether the following points are positive or negative impact of celebrating world festivals. Discuss the reasons.
a. Objective: To help Ss generate ideas for their writing.
b. Content: Ss work in pairs, read the statements (1-6) about world festivals, and decide if they represent a positive or negative impact, then explain why.
c. Product: Correct categorization of positive and negative impacts and reasonable explanations.

Tell them to read the 6 statements and discuss which of them represent a positive or negative impact. - Encourage Ss to refer to the ideas in the Listening section and explain their reasons. - Teacher encourages students to use their smartphones/laptops to ask an AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini,...) to provide detailed reasons for these impacts. Step 2: Students perform learning tasks - Students read the points and tick the correct column (Positive/Negative). - Students discuss the reasons with their partners. - Ss prompt AI for more ideas and critically evaluate whether the AI's suggestions are culturally suitable for Vietnam. - The teacher observes, guides, and supports the students (if necessary). Step 3: Reporting and Discussion - Teacher calls on some pairs to share their answers and their explanations. - Other students can comment or offer alternative opinions. b. Content: Ss review the structure of an opinion essay, arrange jumbled parts, and write their own draft before doing peer review.
c. Product: A well-structured opinion essay of about 180 words expressing the student's viewpoint.

a. Objective: To consolidate students' grammar and vocabulary accuracy when writing argumentative essays, specifically focusing on cohesive devices and error recognition.

c. Products: Students' correctly rewritten sentences and corrected paragraphs.
