I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

  • Use everyday English phrases to introduce someone to someone else.
  • Identify and practise asking suitable questions when making new friends at school.
  • Read and do a quiz to assess friendship qualities.

2. Competences

General competences:

  • Self-control and independent learning: actively participate in reading dialogues and answering quizzes.
  • Communication and collaboration: work in pairs or groups to role-play introducing friends and interviewing each other.

Specific competences:

  • Develop conversational skills (greeting and introducing).
  • Improve speaking fluency through class presentations about friends.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To activate students' prior knowledge, create an energetic and friendly atmosphere, and lead into the topic of introducing new people.

b. Content: Teacher organizes a musical networking game called “Musical Introductions”.

c. Product: Students move around and quickly interact with different classmates.

d. Organization:

Step 1: Teacher assigns learning tasks

- Teacher asks the students to watch an AI-generated video designed to support the lesson and answer the questions that appear in the video.

- Teacher organizes a game. Teacher explains the rules: 

+ When the music plays, students walk around the classroom. When the music stops, students must quickly find a partner they don't usually sit with.

- Teacher projects a digital “Random Action Wheel” (E.g. Wordwall or Picker Wheel) on the smart TV containing prompts:

Example: “Say hello”, “High five”, “Tell them your favorite subject”, etc. 

+ Teacher spins the wheel, and students must perform the action shown on the screen with their partner.

Step 2: Students perform learning tasks

- Students watch and answer the questions from the AI video.

- In the game, students move to the music, find partners, read the prompt from the digital wheel, and perform the action/greeting.

Step 3: Reporting and Discussion

- Teacher invites some students to answer the questions from the AI video.

- After the game:

+ Teacher asks 1 – 2 pairs to demonstrate what they just shared.

+ Teacher asks students the following question: “If you are with your best friend, and you meet a new person, how do you introduce them to each other?”.

Step 4: Evaluation

- Teacher checks and confirms the correct answer.

- Teacher praises active participation in the game, and leads into the new lesson: “Today, we will learn the exact English phrases to introduce someone, and the best questions to ask when making new friends at school in Communication.”

2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1: Listen and read the dialogue, pay attention to the highlighted parts

a. Objective: To teach students how to introduce someone to someone else in English.

b. Content: Students listen to the recording, read the dialogue between Vy, Phong, and Duy, and notice the highlighted phrases.

c. Product: Students understand and correctly pronounce the phrases for introducing people.

a. Objective: To help students practise introducing a friend in a real context.

b. Content: Students work in groups of three to role-play introducing each other.
