UNIT 6: A VISIT TO A SCHOOL

GETTING STARTED

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Understand the context of an introductory conversation about visiting a school.

- Identify and correctly use vocabulary related to school facilities (gym, computer room, school garden, playground, school library).

- Read for specific information to answer multiple-choice questions.

- Practise asking and answering questions about times and places using when and where with appropriate prepositions.

2. Competences

General competences:

- Communication and collaboration: Work in pairs or groups to read the conversation, discuss answers, and ask/answer questions about a timetable.

- Self-control and independent learning: Actively recall vocabulary and apply grammar rules to complete tasks.

Specific competences:

- Accurately use vocabulary related to school facilities in context.

- Formulate and respond to Wh-questions regarding schedules and locations.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To activate students' prior knowledge about school facilities, create an engaging atmosphere, and introduce the topic of the unit. 

b. Content: Teacher organizes a "Mystery School AI Image" guessing game. 

c. Product: Students successfully guess the vocabulary words related to places in a school.

d. Organization:

Step 1: Teacher assigns learning tasks

- T projects a series of zoomed-in or partially blurred images of school facilities (e.g., a basketball hoop in a gym, a bookshelf in a library, a monitor in a computer room) generated by an AI image tool.

- Ask Ss to guess what place in a school each picture represents. 

Step 2: Students perform learning tasks

- Students observe the images on the smart TV and raise their hands to guess the places. 

- The teacher observes, guides, and supports the students (if necessary).

Step 3: Reporting and Discussion

- T calls on students to share their answers loudly. 

- Other students can comment or offer alternative opinions (if any).

Step 4: Evaluation

- T reveals the full, unblurred image to confirm the answer.

- T leads into the lesson: "Today we are going to learn more about these places and follow Mi on a visit to Binh Minh Lower Secondary School in our new unit."

3. PRACTICE

a. Objective: To consolidate the vocabulary of school facilities and the use of prepositions of time and place. 

b. Content: Students complete a preposition gap-fill exercise and a multiple-choice exercise.
