- Teacher starts the "Compliment Relay" using an interactive digital platform (e.g., Mentimeter or Slido) displayed on the smart board. Teacher gives a compliment to one student (e.g., "You have a beautiful smile!"). That student must say "Thank you" and immediately type a different compliment to another classmate on their smartphones to display in real-time on the smart board.

Step 1: Teacher assigns learning tasks - Teacher asks Ss to read through the two situations and the "Useful expressions" box. - Teacher divides the class into pairs. One is Student A, the other is Student B. - Teacher sets a time limit of 5 minutes for preparation. Step 2: Students perform learning tasks - Ss work in pairs to build and practise their conversations. - Teacher instructs Ss to use an AI voice assistant (e.g., Google Assistant, Siri) on their smartphones to practice their pronunciation and analyze how the AI recognizes and responds to their spoken compliments. - Teacher walks around the class to monitor, offering prompts to weaker pairs (e.g., underlining words in the model they can replace). Step 3: Reporting and Discussion - Teacher invites a few pairs to role-play their conversations in front of the class. - Other Ss listen and provide peer feedback. Step 4: Evaluation - Teacher gives constructive feedback on pronunciation, fluency, and proper use of the complimenting expressions. - Teacher moves on to the next content. | Suggested conversations: Situation 1: A: I've read your report on ASEAN. Well done! You've done a lot of research and organised the information very clearly. B: I'm so pleased to hear that you like it. Thank you. Situation 2: A: I have attended the workshop on skills for future leaders in ASEAN. It was so well organised. B: Thank you. Step 2: Students perform learning tasks - Ss discuss and note down their ideas using a collaborative digital whiteboard (e.g., Padlet or Jamboard) on their devices. - Ss can consult an AI chatbot on their devices to generate comparative cultural points, but they must cross-check and evaluate the AI's suggestions against the textbook and their own knowledge. - Teacher observes and helps Ss with comparative structures. Step 3: Reporting and Discussion - Teacher asks some pairs to share their findings with the whole class. Step 4: Evaluation - Teacher praises their cultural awareness and summarizes the main points. - Teacher moves on to the next content. | Suggested answers: Like some ASEAN countries, such as Singapore and the Philippines, Viet Nam celebrates Lunar New Year.
