I. OBJECTIVES 

1. Knowledge and skills 

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

• Write a proposal about a welcome event.
• Familiarise themselves with the structure and language of a proposal.
• Generate ideas and draft a proposal for an ASEAN poster making event.

2. Competences

• Communication and collaboration: Work in pairs or groups to brainstorm ideas and peer-review writing drafts.

A PROPOSAL FOR A WELCOME EVENT

Activity 1: Read the following proposal and match the headings (1-4) with the paragraphs (A-D). 

a. Objective : To familiarise Ss with the structure and language of a proposal.

b. Content: Students read a sample proposal, match headings with paragraphs, and analyze the Tips box.

c. Product: Students correctly match the headings and understand the text structure.

d. Organization:

Activity 2: Work in groups. You want to propose an ASEAN poster making event to welcome a group of ASEAN students. Discuss and add more ideas to the following notes. 

a. Objective: To help Ss generate ideas for their writing.

b. Content: Students analyze a table of notes about an ASEAN event and add their own ideas.

c. Product: Completed notes with generated ideas ready for drafting.

Activity 3: Write a proposal (120-150 words) about a welcome event. Use the suggested ideas in 2, the model in 1, and the outline below to help you. 

a. Objective: To help Ss practise writing a proposal about an event.

b. Content: Students write a full proposal based on brainstormed ideas and an outline.

c. Product: A final draft of the proposal.

a. Objective: To consolidate the formal language, vocabulary, and useful expressions needed for proposal writing.

b. Content: Students complete one practical mission containing two exercise-based tasks (Sentence Building and Formal Language Replacement). 

c. Products: Correctly formulated sentences and appropriately elevated formal vocabulary.

4. APPLICATION

a. Objective: To help students apply the structural knowledge of proposal writing into a creative, real-life context outside the classroom.

b. Content: Students carry out an individual homework task: "A Proposal for Our Class".

c. Product: A formal written proposal.

d. Organization:

Step 1: Teacher assigns learning tasks

- Teacher explains the homework assignment: Imagine our school is hosting an 'ASEAN Cultural Week' next month. Write a proposal (120-150 words) to your Form Teacher proposing a unique activity for YOUR specific class to host during that week (e.g., a traditional ASEAN food tasting, an ASEAN quiz show, or a cultural fashion show).

- Students must strictly follow the proposal structure learned today (Title, To, Date, Prepared by, Introduction, Details, Goals/benefits, Conclusion).

- Instruct students to publish their final proposals on the class's shared digital forum (e.g., Azota, Microsoft Teams, or a class blog).

Step 2: Students perform learning tasks

- Students take notes of the requirement. They will brainstorm and type the proposal at home, utilizing AI tools for structural checking if desired.

Step 3: Reporting and Discussion 

- Students will do a "Digital Gallery Walk" by logging into the class forum to read their classmates' proposals.

- Students will use the platform's polling feature to vote on the best event idea for their class.

Step 4: Evaluation

- Teacher reminds students of the grading criteria (accurate structure, persuasive language, creativity, and correct grammar).

- Teacher summarizes the main points of today's writing lesson and assigns the homework.
