Lesson 1 – Period 1

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering questions about personal information.
  • Correctly say the words and use "Can you tell me about yourself? - I’m in _____.; I live in the _____." to ask and answer questions about personal information.
  • Use "Can you tell me about yourself? - I’m in _____.; I live in the ______." in freer contexts.
  • Use the words city, Class 5A, Class 5B, countryside in relation to the topic “All about me!”.

2. Competences

Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks.

Self-control & independent learning: perform pronunciation and intonation, listening and reading tasks.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To revise the previous lesson by having pupils sing the song Back to school.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher spends a few minutes revising the previous lesson by having pupils sing the song on page 7.

- Teacher uses a computer connected to the internet to access hoclieu.vn on the smart TV, clicking to open the digital version of the song "Back to school" to interact with the class.

- Teacher plays the song for pupils to listen to and sing in chorus.

- Teacher plays the song again for pupils to sing in chorus and clap hands to reinforce the activity.

- Teacher invites one pupil or a group to perform the song in front of the class.
- The teacher introduces the new lesson to the pupils: “Các bạn biết không, lớp 5 là một cột mốc rất đặc biệt... Let’s get started!

2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat

a. Objective: To understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering questions about personal information.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher has pupils look at Pictures a and b and identify the characters in the pictures.

kenhhoctapkenhhoctap- Teacher ask pupils to look at Picture a. Play the recording for them to listen. Play the recording again, sentence by sentence, for pupils to listen and repeat individually and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation where necessary. Repeat the same procedure with Picture b.

- Teacher plays the recording again for pupils to listen to and repeat individually in chorus sentence by sentence.
- Teacher invites a few pairs to the front of the classroom to listen to and repeat the sentences in the recording.
- Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the question “Can you tell me about yourself, Lan?" and the answer "Well, I’m in Class 5C. I live in the countryside”.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher has pupils look at the pictures and elicit the personal information of each character.

- Teacher has pupils point at Picture a (a girl standing near the door of Class 5A), listen to the recording and repeat the word (Class 5A). Repeat the same procedure with the other three pictures. Have pupils repeat the words a few times. Check comprehension.

- Teacher points at the first bubble and have pupils listen and repeat after the recording.
- Teacher has pupils work in pairs to practise asking and answering the question.
- Teacher invite a few pairs to point at the pictures and say the questions & answers in front of the class.

- Teacher instructs pupils to use tablets to quickly search for images of a 'city' and 'countryside' on Google Images to visually understand the new vocabulary.

a. Objective: To use Can you tell me about yourself? - I’m in _____.; I live in the ______ . in a freer context.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the pictures. Have them look at the pictures and identify the character’s information in each picture. Check comprehension.

- Teacher invites some pairs of pupils to practise asking and answering questions in front of the class. Praise them if they perform well.

Choose the appropriate word from the parentheses to fill in the blank and complete the dialogue.

*ADVICE

- Review previously learned material.
- Tell pupils about the project at page 15. Ask them to prepare for it at home by making posters about their favourite things. Remind pupils to bring the posters to class to present them at Project time.

- Teacher reminds pupils to take breaks and maintain a safe distance from screens when they use digital tools at home to make their posters, ensuring their physical eye health.
