UNIT 1: ALL ABOUT ME!
Lesson 1 (2 periods)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering questions about personal information.
- Correctly say the words and use "Can you tell me about yourself? – I’m in _____; I live in the _____." to ask and answer questions about personal information.
- Use "Can you tell me about yourself?" and provide various answers in a freer context.
- Listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which speakers ask and answer questions about personal information, and tick the correct pictures.
- Complete four gapped exchanges with the help of picture cues.
- Sing the song "All about me!" with the correct pronunciation, rhythm and melody.

Organisation: - Teacher has pupils look at Pictures a and b and identify the characters.
- Teacher can use a generative AI text-to-speech tool to play additional natural dialogue variations of the script to enrich the listening input. - Teacher plays it again, sentence by sentence, for pupils to listen and repeat individually and in chorus. Corrects their pronunciation where necessary. - Teacher repeats the same procedure with Picture b. - Teacher invites a few pairs to the front of the classroom to listen and repeat the sentences in the recording. - Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the question "Can you tell me about yourself, Lan?" and the answer "Well, I’m in Class 5C. I live in the countryside." Tells pupils that they are used to ask and answer questions about personal information. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the pictures and identify the characters (Ben and Lan).

Activity 2: Listen, point and say. a. Objective: To correctly say the words and use Can you tell me about yourself? – I’m in _____; I live in the _____. to ask and answer questions about personal information. b. Organisation: - Teacher has pupils look at the pictures and elicit the personal information of each character (a. Class 5A, b. Class 5B, c. city, d. countryside).
- Teacher displays the exercise on the TV, invites some pupils to enter the answers on teacher’s device. - Teacher has pupils point at Picture a, plays the first part of the recording and has pupils repeat the words (Class 5A). Repeat the procedure with the other three pictures. - Teacher points at the first bubble and has pupils listen to the second part of the recording and repeat (Can you tell me about yourself?). Point at Picture a and have pupils listen and repeat (I’m in Class 5A.). Repeat with the other pictures. - Teacher has pupils work in pairs to practise asking and answering using the speech bubbles and Pictures a, b, c and d. - Teacher invites a few pairs to point at the pictures and say the questions and answers in front of the class. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |

- Teacher has pupils look at the bubbles to understand how the sentence pattern is used: My name's ___. I'm in ___. I live in the ___. My birthday is in ___. - Teacher gives their answers (using the picture cues) and has pupils role-play in pairs. - Teacher invites some pairs to practise asking and answering questions in front of the class. - Teacher sets up a simple educational voice-recording application on classroom tablets for students to capture their role-play.
Extension: Teacher has pupils brainstorm and give more detailed personal information (age, hobbies, pets). |

Organisation: - Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the pictures. Elicit the personal information (name, grade, where they live). Explain the new word grade.
- Teacher plays the recording of the first exchange for pupils to listen, then plays it again to do the task. Play a third time to check answers. - Teacher repeats the step for Exchange 2. - Teacher gets pupils to swap books and check answers.
- Teacher plays the recording again for pupils to double-check and repeat the information. - Teacher moves on to the next content |

Activity 5: Read and complete a. Objective: To complete four gapped exchanges with the help of picture cues. b. Organisation: - Teacher has pupils look at the pictures and identify the personal information about the character in each picture.
- Teacher asks pupils to look at the four incomplete exchanges and draws attention to the missing words. - Teacher projects the exercise and provides the mouse to help students drag and drop the missing words efficiently.
- Teacher does Exchange 1 together as a class. Identifies necessary info from the picture (countryside/village) and completes the gap. - Teacher has pupils complete the rest independently, then swap books to check.

Introduce actions for pupils to do. - Teacher plays the recording all the way through for pupils to sing along. - Teacher puts pupils into groups to make up their own actions and invites them to the front to perform. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |

4. APPLICATION Mission: Class Reporter a. Objective: To apply the learned sentence structures to ask about and report real-life personal information of friends. b. Organisation: - Teacher assigns the task: "Class Reporter". - Teacher gives pupils a survey table with 4 columns: "Name", "Class", "Living place", and "Birthday". - Teacher sets up a collaborative digital spreadsheet (e.g., Google Sheets) with 4 columns for students to digitally log their survey findings.
- Teacher asks pupils to stand up, walk around, and interview 3 classmates using the structure: "Can you tell me about yourself?". They note down their friends' real information. - Teacher invites 2-3 pupils to stand up and report their findings (e.g., "This is Mai. She is in Class 5A. She lives in the city.
