Lesson 3 (2 periods)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Correctly pronounce the two-syllable words 'dolphin and 'tennis with the stress on the first syllable, in isolation and in the sentences I like 'dolphins. and He plays 'tennis on Sundays.
- Identify the stress on some two-syllable words and circle the word with a different stress pattern from the other two words.
- Say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation.
- Read and show understanding of two paragraphs by circling the correct options.
- Complete a paragraph with pupils' personal information.
- Present a poster about their favourite things to the class.

2. PRESENTATION Activity 1: Listen and repeat a. Objective: To correctly pronounce the two-syllable words 'dolphin and 'tennis with the stress on the first syllable, in isolation and in the sentences I like 'dolphins. and He plays 'tennis on Sundays. b. Organisation: - Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the word 'dolphin and the sentence I like 'dolphins. Play the recording and encourage them to point to the word and sentence while listening. Explain word stress (in Vietnamese if necessary) by putting the emphasis on one specific syllable. - Teacher plays the recording again and encourage pupils to listen and repeat. Do this a few times. Correct their pronunciation where necessary. - Teacher repeats Steps 1 and 2 for the second line ('tennis, He plays 'tennis on Sundays.). - Teacher utilises an AI Text-to-Speech application on the smartboard to generate accurate audio models of the words, visually displaying the stress patterns dynamically.
- Teacher lets pupils work in pairs or groups to say the words and read the sentences. Invite a few pupils to listen to the recording and say the language in front of the class. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the words and sentences, point and listen to the recording.
- Pupils interact with a basic AI pronunciation checking application on their tablets, recording their voices to receive instant visual feedback on their stress placement. - Pupils work in pairs or groups to practise saying the words and sentences. - Selected pupils perform in front of the class. |

Activity 3: Let's chant a. Objective: To say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation. b. Organisation: - Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the lyrics of the chant. Check comprehension.
- Teacher plays the recording all the way through. Encourage pupils to listen carefully to the rhythm and pronunciation. Draw attention to the two-syllable words with the stress on the first syllable ('pandas, 'dolphins, 'tennis, 'football). - Teacher plays the recording, line by line, for pupils to listen and repeat. Correct pronunciation if necessary. - Teacher playsPthe chant video paired with an AI-generated animated background that highlights syllables in sync with the beat. Extension: Teacher has pupils write their own chants by replacing the animals and sports with their favorite ones. Ask pupils to practise the newchants. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |

Activity 5: Let's write a. Objective: To complete a paragraph with pupils’ personal information. b. Organisation: - Teacher tells pupils they are going to look at the gapped paragraph and complete it using their own information. Check comprehension.
- Teacher writes the first gapped sentence on the board: My name is ____. Elicit the needed info. - Teacher sets up a shared online collaborative document (e.g., Google Docs, Padlet) for the writing task to enable real-time sharing.
- Teacher gives pupils time to complete the sentence. - Teacher repeats Step 2 for the other sentences. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
