UNIT 2: OUR HOMES
Lesson 3 (2 periods)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Correctly pronounce the two-syllable words fif'teen and six'teen with the stress on the second syllable, in isolation and in sentences.
- Identify the stress patterns of words ending in -teen and -ty.
- Read and understand a short text about addresses and homes to do a True/False task.
- Write a short paragraph about their own addresses and homes.
- Present the results of a survey about pupils’ homes and addresses to the class.

- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs/groups to complete the project and chant activities.

1. WARM-UP a. Objective: To create a friendly atmosphere and review numbers 1-20 to lead into the lesson on word stress. b. Organisation: - Teacher asks pupils to count from 1 to 20. - Teacher explains the rule: When a pupil says a number ending in -teen (13-19), the whole class must clap their hands once. - Teacher projects a digital interactive number wheel on the smartboard to randomly spin and select numbers to make the counting game more unpredictable. - Teacher increases the speed to make it more exciting. - Teacher introduces the lesson: Today we will learn how to stress these -teen numbers correctly. |
- Pupils count 1-20. - Pupils clap their hands when they hear/say numbers 13-19.

Activity 2: Listen, circle and check a. Objective: To identify the stress on two-syllable words ending in -teen and -ty. b. Organisation: - Teacher tells pupils that: They need to circle the word with a different stress pattern from the other two words in each line. Then they will listen to the recording to check their answers. - Teacher asks pupils to read the numbers.
- Teacher sends a digital worksheet version of this task to the pupils' devices to keep the exercise focused and simple. - Teacher plays the recording twice. Pupils listen and circle the word they hear. - Teacher has pupils swap books to check.
- Teacher confirms the answers and explains: Words ending in -teen usually have stress on the 2nd syllable; words ending in -ty have stress on the 1st. Extension: Teacher invites a few pupils to read all the words in the three lines aloud. Correct their pronunciation and word stress if necessary. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
