UNIT 5: MY FUTURE JOB
Lesson 3 (2 periods)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Correctly pronounce the two-syllable words 'teacher and 'dentist with the stress on the first syllable, in isolation and in the sentences My mother's a 'teacher. and My father's a 'dentist.
- Identify the stress on some two-syllable words and circle the word with a different stress pattern.
- Say the chant with the correct pronunciation, word stress, and rhythm.
- Read an email and complete three gapped sentences about future jobs.
- Complete a gapped letter about future jobs.
- Present a report about a survey on the jobs that their classmates would like to do in the future.

2. PRESENTATION Activity 1: Listen and repeat a. Objective: To correctly pronounce the two-syllable words 'teacher and 'dentist with the stress on the first syllable. b. Organisation: - Teacher asks pupils to look at the word 'teacher with its first syllable marked as stressed. Play the recording and have the class repeat the word until they feel confident.
- Teacher guides pupils to interact with a basic AI pronunciation application on their tablets to model and evaluate correct stress patterns.
- Teacher gets pupils to point at the sentence My mother's a 'teacher., listen to the recording, and repeat it several times. Invite a few pupils to read in front of the class.
- Repeat the same procedure with the word 'dentist and the sentence My father's a 'dentist. - Teacher gives pupils a time limit to practise in pairs. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the word 'teacher, listen to the audio, and repeat focusing on the first-syllable stress.
- Pupils interact with the AI application on their tablets, record their voices reading 'teacher and 'dentist, and receive AI-generated feedback to improve their pronunciation. - Pupils point to the sentence, listen, and repeat individually and in chorus.
- Pupils follow the procedure for 'dentist.
- Pupils practice reading in pairs. |

Activity 2: Circle, listen and check a. Objective: To identify the stress in some two-syllable words and circle the word with a different stress pattern. b. Organisation: ………………………………………….. ………………………………………….. …………………………………………..

Activity 3: Let's chant a. Objective: To say the chant with the correct pronunciation, word stress and rhythm. b. Organisation: - Teacher has pupils scan the first verse. Draw attention to 'teacher and 'future (first-syllable stress).
- Teacher uses a simple audio-editing or AI music generation tool on the computer to change the beat of the chant, making it more engaging for the pupils. - Play the recording line by line. Show pupils how to chant and clap hands to the rhythm. - Repeat the procedure for the second verse with the words 'dentist and 'future.
- Have pupils sing the whole chant in chorus. Give corrections if needed. Extension: Replace the jobs in the chant with other two-syllable jobs which have the stress on the first syllable, e.g. doctor, farmer, driver and pilot. Have pupils practise the new chant. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils scan the verse and identify stressed words.
- Pupils observes the teacher adjust the chant's digital audio tempo and clapping along to the new rhythm.
- Pupils listen, repeat, and clap to the rhythm.

Activity 5: Let's write a. Objective: To complete a gapped letter about future jobs. b. Organisation: - Ask pupils to think about their dream jobs and their brother's/sister's dream jobs. - Read the guiding questions: What would you like to be...? Why? What would your brother/sister like to be...? Why? - Teacher demonstrates how to use a safe AI chatbot or writing assistant on the smartboard to generate ideas and vocabulary for dream jobs.
- Give pupils time to write (about 30 words) to complete the letter to Peter. - Have some pupils read their completed letters aloud. Provide feedback. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
