UNIT 4: OUR FREE-TIME ACTIVITIES
Lesson 2 (2 periods)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering questions about what someone does at the weekend.
- Correctly say the words and use "What do you do at the weekend? - I ___." with adverbs of frequency (always, usually, often, sometimes) to ask and answer questions about weekend activities.
- Use "What do you like doing in your free time? - I like ___." and "What do you do at the weekend? - I ___." in a freer context.
- Listen to and understand two communicative contexts about what someone does at the weekend, and tick the correct pictures.
- Complete two gapped exchanges with the help of picture cues.
- Listen to and complete the song "What do you like doing in your free time?" and sing it with the correct pronunciation, rhythm and melody.

2. PRESENTATION Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat a. Objective: To understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts in which characters ask and answer questions about what someone does at the weekend. b. Organisation: - Teacher asks pupils to look at Pictures a and b and identify the characters (Mai and Bill) and their activities.
- Teacher plays the recording for Picture a using an interactive digital e-book on the smart TV, clicking on characters to trigger animated speech bubbles. Plays again, sentence by sentence, for pupils to listen and repeat. - Follows the same procedure with Picture b. Corrects pronunciation where necessary. - Teacher plays the recording again for pupils to listen and repeat in chorus. - Teacher invites a few pairs to the front to listen and repeat the sentences. - Teacher draws attention to the question "What do you do at the weekend?" and the answers "I usually listen to music." and "I often play table tennis." - Teacher moves on to the next content. |

- Pupils listen to the recording and repeat.

Activity 3: Let's talk a. Objective: To use What do you like doing in your free time? - I like ___. and What do you do at the weekend? - I ___. in a freer context. b. Organisation: - Teacher asks pupils to look at the picture and elicit the activity each character is doing.
- Teacher demonstrates the conversation with one pupil using the speech bubbles. - Teacher distributes tablets equipped with a digital voice recording app and instructs pairs to record their conversations. - Teacher puts pupils into pairs to ask and answer about free time and weekend activities. Goes around to offer support. - Teacher invites a few pairs to perform their conversations. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the pictures and identify the activities. * Picture cues: a girl playing the violin, a boy riding his bike, a boy surfing the Internet and a girl reading a story.

- Teacher has pupils look at the gapped exchanges and draw attention to missing words. - Teacher focuses on Exchange 1, asks what words are missing. - Repeats for Exchange 2 - Teacher gets pupils to swap books to check answers before checking as a class. Asks a few pairs to read aloud. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
