Step 1: Transfering the learning task

- T tells Ss that they are going to listen to the recording and write the words they hear in the blanks. Ask them to read the two sentences a) and b) carefully, and decide on the part of speech of the missing words.

- Play the recording. Pause after the fi rst pair of sentences and focus Ss’ attention on the homophones.

- T has Ss work in pairs, discussing the meaning of each word and choosing the correct one for each sentence.

- T asks students to listen and repeat

Step 2: Performing the task

- Ss do as requested to do the task

- Ss repeat chorally and individually

Step 3: Discussion

- T calls on some students to read, other students listen and then give comment about pronunciation

Step 1: Transfering the learning task

Ex 1:

- Ask Ss to look at the Remember box. Draw their attention to the examples and ask them guiding questions:

I n the first example, which verb indicates an action in progress? Which verb indicates a shorter action that interrupts it?

What kind of action does the second example indicate? Why is the adverb ‘always’ used? • - -- Ask Ss to read each sentence carefully and decide which action is in progress and which one is a shorter action that interrupts it. Draw their attention to sentences 4 and 6, in which always and constantly are used.

Ex 2:

Ask Ss to study the Do you know …? box. • Ask Ss to read the sentences carefully and underline the nouns/noun phrases after the gaps.

- Tell Ss to pay attention to the forms and kinds of these nouns/noun phrases (singular or plural, countable or uncountable, common or proper) before deciding whether to use an article or not in each case.

• Ask Ss to complete the gaps with the or a cross (X) if an article is not necessary.

Ex 3:

- Ask Ss to study the Do you know …? box.

- Ask Ss to complete the gaps with an indefi nite article or a cross (X) if an article is not necessary. Draw their attention to sentences 7 and 8, in which the nouns (ice cream, coff ee) can be countable or uncountable.

Ex 4:

- Tell Ss that to do activity 4, they need to consider whether to use a defi nite article, an indefi nite article, or no articles at all for each gap in the story.

- Ask Ss to read the whole story fi rst to understand the context before completing the gaps

- Ss do as requested to complete these task

Step 3: Discussion

- Have Ss compare the sentences in pairs.

Step 4: Conclusion

- Check answers as a class.

Giving back to the community

I. Objectives:

  1. Knowledge

- To teach Ss to scan a text for specific information about two people’s life stories and carefully read it for more detailed information through completing the/ a table with correct information and answering questions.

- To teach Ss new vocabulary by finding words or expressions with the definitions given.

- To provide learners some vocabulary related to people’s life stories.

To promote Ss to develop their reading skills

-Skim the text to get the general idea

- Scan the text to get some specific details

- they’ll build up their habbit of thinking logically and guessing ability. They’ll practice sentence

- analysis skimming for gist and scanning for details.

1. WARM UP

a. Aim: help SS to focus on Ss’predictions about the reading text

b. Content: Ss look at the picture and answer the questions

- T Ask Ss to look at the pictures and answer the questions. What do the people in the pictures need? What can you do to help them?

2. PRESENTATION

a. Aim: help Ss how to skim the text to get the genenral idea

b. Content: Read the text and decide the title for it

b. Content: Discus with a partner about taking part in the Sunflower Festival to support Thuy’s Dream Programme

Step 1: Transfering the learning task:

-Put Ss in pair and let them discuss the questions freely.

- If Ss have never heard of Thuy’s Dream Programme or the Sunfl ower Festival, encourage them to search the Internet for information before they answer question b.

- Ss work in pairs and make notes of the answers on a piece of paper.

Step 3: Discussion

- T asks some pairs to present their answers in front of the class. T encourages other Ss to ask further questions or give feedback.

Step 4: Conclusion

- T give comment on Ss’ presentation
