STARTER

Period 1 (A. HELLO AGAIN)

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Sing the song Hello. How are you? with the correct pronunciation, rhythm and melody.
  • Listen to and understand a short text in which Ms Hoa greets the characters, introduces herself and the characters in the classroom and tick the correct pictures.
  • Spell some words learnt in Grade 3 by playing the game Spelling bee.

2. Competences

  • Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks.
  • Self-control & independent learning: perform pronunciation and intonation, listening, and singing tasks.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To greet the class, introduce the structure of Tiếng Anh 4 - Global Success and prepare pupils for the new lesson.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher greets the class: "Hello. / Hi. How are you?" and encourages pupils to respond and introduce themselves.

- Teacher spends a few minutes talking about the structure of Tiếng Anh 4 and how to study with it.

- Teacher asks pupils to open their books at page 7 and look at Starter, A. Hello again!.

- Teacher uses a smart TV to access hoclieu.vn, displaying the digital version of the lesson to interact with the class.

- Teacher moves to the next content.

 

 

 

 

 

 

- Pupils respond to the teacher's greetings and introduce themselves.

- Pupils listen to the introduction of the new book.
- Pupils open their books to page 7.

2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1: Let's sing.

a. Objective: To sing the song Hello. How are you? with the correct pronunciation, rhythm and melody.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the lyrics of the song. Encourages them to point at the pictures to reinforce understanding.

- Explains that Minh meets and greets Lucy. Plays the first verse for pupils to listen, focusing on pronunciation, rhythm and melody. Let them practise singing line by line, clapping hands.

- Repeat Step 2 for the second verse. Explain that Nam introduces Mary and Mai. Check comprehension and give feedback.
- Ask pupils to listen and sing the whole song while clapping hands. Go around the classroom and offer help where necessary.

- Invite a few groups to the front to sing. The class claps along.

- Teacher moves to the next content.

 

 

 

 

 

 

- Pupils look at the lyrics and pictures.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

- Pupils read the first verse, listen to the recording, and practise singing line by line while clapping hands.

a. Objective: To listen and understand a short text in which Ms Hoa greets the characters, introduces herself and others, and tick the correct pictures.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the characters in the pictures. Asks questions such as "Who is he/she?" and "Where is he/she?". Check comprehension.

- Play the recording all the way through. Play again for pupils to listen and tick the pictures.

- Get pupils to swap books with a partner to check answers before checking as a class. Correct the answers if necessary.

Extension: If time allows, play recording sentence by sentence for pupils to listen and repeat in chorus.

 

 

 

 

 

 

- Pupils look at the pictures and identify the characters.

Activity 3: Let's play.

a. Objective: To spell some words learnt in Grade 3 by playing the game Spelling bee.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher has pupils look at the English alphabet and sing The Alphabet song or spell the letters of the song.

- Tell pupils they are going to spell some words they have learnt in Grade 3 (hello, friend, classroom, outdoor, activities). Explain how to play the game.

- Call a group of 4 pupils to the front. Give the piece of paper to one of the group members. Ask him/her to say one word (e.g. friend). The others spell the word (F-R-I-E-N-D). The pupil who correctly spells the word first gets one point or star.

- Teacher moves to the next content.

 

 

 

 

 

- Pupils sing The Alphabet song.

 

- Pupils listen to the rules of the game.

 

 

 

- A group of 4 pupils play the game in front of the class. One pupil says the word, others try to spell it fast to get points.

 

3. PRACTICE

a. Objective: Pupils reinforce the knowledge they have learned by doing a worksheet.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher organizes a group discussion (6 students) and requires: Complete Worksheet 1.

b. Organisation: "Make a New Friend"

- Teacher puts students in groups of 3 (Student A, Student B, Student C).

- Teacher instructs: Student A will greet Student B, then introduce Student C to Student B.

- Teacher models the conversation with 2 pupils:

T: Hello, Nam. How are you?

Nam: I'm fine, thank you. And you?

T: I'm fine. Nam, this is my friend, Lan.

Nam: Hi Lan. Nice to meet you.

Lan: Nice to meet you, too.

- Teacher asks groups to practice the role-play for 3 minutes.

- Teacher invites 2-3 groups to come to the front and perform their conversation.

- Teacher praises groups with good pronunciation and confident body language.

 

* CONSOLIDATION

- The teacher reviews and summarizes the main points of the lesson (singing the greeting song, introducing someone, and spelling words).

- The teacher comments on and evaluates pupils' participation in the lesson, praising active pupils.

* ADVICE

- Review the song "Hello. How are you?" and practice spelling vocabulary at home.
