UNIT 3: MY WEEK

Lesson 2 – 2 Period 

   

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering questions about what someone does on certain days of the week.
  • Correctly say the phrases and use "What do you do on ___? - I ___." to ask and answer questions about what someone does on certain days of the week.
  • Listen to and understand four communicative contexts about days of the week and what someone does on certain days of the week and number the correct pictures.
  • Complete four gapped exchanges with the help of picture cues.
  • Sing the song "What day is it today?" with the correct pronunciation, rhythm and melody.

2. Competences

Critical thinking and creativity: learn how to ask and answer about daily activities on specific days.

Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks.

Self-control & independent learning: perform listening, speaking, reading, and singing tasks.

III. PROCEDURES

a. Objective: To engage pupils and prepare them for the lesson.

b. Organisation:

- Greet the class and encourage pupils to respond to your greeting.

- Get a few pupils to play the game Slap the board in front of the class. Have the class give comments.

- Ask pupils to open their books at page 24 and look at Unit 3, Lesson 2, Activity 1. Tell them what they will learn in this lesson.

- The teacher uses a computer and a projector to open the interactive e-book to display page 24.

Activity 2. Listen, point and say.

a. Objective: To correctly say the phrases and use What do you do on ___? - I ___. to ask and answer questions about what someone does on certain days of the week.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils look at the pictures and elicit the activities and the days of the week.

- Teacher invites pupils to use the interactive smart TV/board to point at the pictures and play the corresponding sounds.

- Have pupils point at Picture a, listen to the recording and repeat the phrase (Mondays / study at school). Repeat the same procedure with the other three pictures. Have the class repeat the phrases a few times.

Activity 4. Listen and number.

a. Objective: To listen to and understand four communicative contexts about days of the week and what someone does on certain days of the week and number the correct pictures.

b. Organisation:

- Draw pupils' attention to the pictures. Elicit the activities and the days of the week.

- Teacher navigates the digital textbook (ebook) on the smart TV to show the pictures and play the audio.

- Play the recording for pupils to do the task by numbering the pictures. Play the recording again to give pupils another listening opportunity.

   

   

   

   

   

   

   

- Check answers together as a class. Play the recording a third time for pupils to double-check their answers and correct their answers in pairs.

Activity 6. Let's sing.

a. Objective: To sing the song What day is it today? with the correct pronunciation, rhythm and melody.

b. Organisation:

- Draw pupils' attention to the title and lyrics of the song. Encourage them to point at the characters' activities to reinforce their understanding.

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen to the whole song. Encourage them to listen carefully to the pronunciation, rhythm and melody.

- Play the recording line by line for pupils to listen and repeat. Correct their pronunciation where necessary.

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to sing along.

- Play the recording again for pupils to sing and clap along with the recording.

- The teacher demonstrates how to safely adjust the computer's volume and speakers to protect the hardware and pupils' hearing.

a. Objective: To apply the learned vocabulary and structures to a real-life context through a new game.

b. Organisation:

New Game: "WEEKEND REPORTER"

- Teacher gives each group a "micro" (a prop microphone) and a "Reporter Notebook".

- The teacher uses an Educational Chatbot AI on the projector to generate 3 creative interview questions about weekend activities, demonstrating how AI can assist in brainstorming.

- Teacher models the interview with a pupil:

Reporter: What day is it today?

Pupil: It's Saturday.

Reporter: What do you do on Saturdays?

 Pupil: I do housework.

- Pupils take turns being the reporter and interviewing 3 friends in their group about their weekend activities (Saturdays and Sundays).

- Pupils write down their friends' activities in the Reporter Notebook to complete the task.

- Teacher invites some reporters to stand up and present their findings to the class: "On Saturdays, Tommy does housework. On Sundays, he listens to music..."

* CONSOLIDATION

- The teacher reviews and summarizes the main points of Lesson 2 (Periods 3 & 4), including how to ask and answer questions about days of the week and daily activities.

- The teacher comments on and evaluates pupils' participation in the lesson, praising active pupils and encouraging those who are less active.

* ADVICE

- Review previously learned material (vocabulary about activities and days of the week).
