C. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

   

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills 

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Practise the names of outdoor activities by playing a Miming game.
  • Correctly match the characters with the pictures and talk about their hobbies using the structure "Look at [Name]. His/Her hobby is [activity]."
  • Read the chant aloud and act out with the help of the lyrics and picture cues.

  • Critical thinking and creativity: Learn how to observe actions and identify corresponding vocabulary.
  • Communication and collaboration: Work in pairs and groups to complete the miming game and acting-out tasks.

2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1: Let's play.

a. Objective: To practise the names of outdoor activities by playing Miming game.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher elicits the language that pupils need to talk about outdoor activities using picture cues (e.g., What are they doing? – They’re ___ (swimming / running / singing / skating / skipping)). Teacher checks comprehension.

- Teacher explains how the game is played: Two pupils mime the action of an activity. One pupil asks What are they doing? and the other pupils guess the action and answer.

- Teacher projects a digital interactive randomizer wheel (random wheel) containing the 5 core activity flashcards.

- Teacher divides the class into groups of five. Select two pupils to tap the smartboard to spin the digital wheel to select the action to mime. One pupil asks What are they doing? and the rest guess.

   

   

   

   

- Teacher monitors and awards one point or star to the team that guesses the correct answer first. The team with the most points or stars is the winner.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

   

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils look at the picture cue and review the vocabulary.

- Pupils work in groups of five. 

- Two pupils interact with the smartboard to spin the digital wheel, then mime the randomly selected action.

Activity 2: Follow the lines and say.

a. Objective: To match the pupils with the pictures and talk about their hobbies.

Activity 3: Read and act out.

a. Objective: To read the chant aloud and act out with the help of the lyrics and picture cues.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher has pupils look at the first picture to identify the meaning of the first two lines.

- Teacher gets pupils to read aloud the first line and jump up. Then have them read the second line aloud and jump up high.

- Teacher sets up a tablet on a tripod facing the class. As pupils read the verse and act out, the teacher records a short digital video of their performance.

- Teacher replays the video on the screen so pupils can watch their own pronunciation and actions.

- When pupils are familiar with the verses and actions, ask them to read the whole chant aloud and act out. Then invite a few groups to the front of the class to say the chant and act out. The class may chant along and do actions or clap hands to reinforce the activity.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils look at the first picture and identify the action.



 

   

   

   

- Pupils read aloud and do the corresponding actions (jump, jump high).

   

- Pupils intentionally act out in front of the camera, using the digital recording medium to express themselves.

- Pupils watch the digital playback to reflect on their own performance.

3. PRACTICE

a. Objective: To reinforce the core vocabulary and structures learned in the lesson through a basic, focused multiple-choice exercise.

4. APPLICATION

a. Objective: To apply the learned sentence structures to describe the real-life hobbies of family members at home in a basic and creative way.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher assigns the home task: "My Family's Hobbies".

- Teacher explains the simple requirements:

1. Observe or ask 2 family members about their favourite outdoor activity/hobby.

2. With parents' help, use a basic AI image generator (e.g., AutoDraw, Bing Image Creator) to generate a simple picture of that activity using basic keywords.

3. Print or save the digital picture and write 1 basic sentence under it: "Look at my [family member]. His/Her hobby is [activity]."

- Teacher models an example on the board by typing a basic prompt into an AI tool and writing the sentence.

For example: [A father fishing by the river, cute 3D cartoon style]

- Teacher reminds pupils to bring their digital or printed posters to the next class.

*CONSOLIDATION

- Teacher reviews the structures: What are they doing? and Look at [Name]. His/Her hobby is...

- Teacher praises active participation and good teamwork.

* ADVICE

- Complete the "My Family's Hobbies" application task.
