Period 1 - A. NUMBERS

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Listen, point at and repeat the numbers 1 – 10 correctly.
  • Listen to and identify the numbers by ticking the correct boxes.
  • Read and match the relevant words with numbers.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To greet the class and introduce the lesson.

b. Organisation:

- Greet the class: "Hello." Reinforce the meaning by smiling and waving.

- Encourage pupils to respond with "Hello" and copy the action. Repeat the procedure a few times.

- Tell pupils to open their books on page 7 and look at Starter, A. Numbers. Write the title "Numbers" on the board and tell pupils what they will learn in this lesson.

- Use an AI voice assistant (e.g., Google Assistant) to play a greeting song and display numbers 1-10 on the smart TV.

- Teacher move to the next contents.





 

- Pupils respond with "Hello" and copy the teacher's action.

 

 

 

- Pupils open their books on page 7.

- Pupils listen to the teacher and observe the board.

2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1. Listen, point and repeat

a. Objective: To listen, point at and repeat the numbers 1 – 10 correctly.

b. Organisation:

- Draw pupils' attention to the numbers. Tell them to listen, point at the numbers and repeat.

- Navigate the digital textbook platform on the website hoclieu.vn to play the audio and display interactive numbers.

- Play the recording again for pupils to listen and repeat. Remind them to point at the numbers while listening. Do this several times until they feel confident. Correct their pronunciation where necessary.

- Put pupils into pairs to practise listening, pointing at and repeating the numbers 1 – 10. Go around the classroom to offer support.

- Teacher moves to the next content.

a. Objective: To listen to and identify the numbers by ticking the correct boxes.

b. Organisation:

- Draw pupils’ attention to the numbers. Tell them to listen and tick the correct boxes while listening. Give an example by playing the recording for "three" and ticking the correct box.

- Use a simple digital classroom tool (hoclieu.vn) to display the ticking task on tablets and play the audio.

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to do the task. Play the recording again for them to check their answers.

- Get pupils to swap books with a partner, then check answers together as a class. Write the correct answers on the board.

- Play the recording again for pupils to double-check their answers.

- Teacher moves to the next content.

Activity 3. Read and match

a. Objective: To read and match the relevant words with numbers.

b. Organisation:

- Divide the board into two columns and write the numbers in word and numeral form. Tell pupils to read the words and draw lines to match the numbers. Give an example by having pupils read the word in chorus and drawing a line to match it to the number 1.

- Create a simple interactive matching game on the smartboard for students to connect words and numbers digitally.

- Give pupils time to do the task individually or in pairs. Go around the classroom to offer support where necessary.

- Check the answers as a class.





 

- Pupils read the words in chorus and observe the teacher's example.

 

 

 

 

- Pupils touch interface to draw lines and match the words with numbers to solve the given task.

3. PRACTICE

a. Objective: Pupils reinforce the knowledge they have learned about numbers 1-10.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher organizes a gamified activity based on "Slap the board".

- Divide the class into 2 teams.

- Call out a number word (e.g. "Seven"). The first pupil from either team to tap the correct numeral on the board gets a point.

- Teacher continues until all numbers are practised. Then comments and confirms the winners.

- Teacher moves to the next content.





 

 

- Pupils listen to the game instructions.

 

- Pupils join the game actively.

 

 

 

- Pupils cheer for their teams.





 

 

4. APPLICATION

a. Objective: To apply the learned vocabulary (numbers 1-10) to a real-life context.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher assigns the task: "Count your school things".

- Ask pupils to work in pairs. Each pupil counts items in their pencil case or on their desk (e.g., pens, pencils, rulers, books) and tells their partner using the numbers 1-10 in English.

- Instruct students on how to safely use the tablet camera to capture school items without capturing personal sensitive information or other students' faces.

 

 

- Teacher goes around to offer help and invites some pupils to share.

 

 

* CONSOLIDATION

- The teacher reviews and summarizes the main points of the lesson (Numbers 1-10).

- The teacher comments on and evaluates pupils' participation in the lesson, praising active pupils and encouraging those who are less active.

* ADVICE

- Review previously learned material (numbers 1-10).
