UNIT 1: HELLO
Lesson 1 (2 periods)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on greetings, self-introducing, and responding to greetings.
- Correctly say the characters’ names and use "Hello. / Hi. I’m ____." and "Hello, / Hi, ____. I’m ____." to greet, self-introduce and respond to greetings.
- Listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which two pupils greet, self-introduce and respond to greetings and circle the correct pictures.
- Complete the gapped sentences with the help of picture cues.
- Sing the song Hello with the correct pronunciation and melody.

- Student’s aids: Tiếng Anh 3 Global Success Student’s book; Workbook; Notebook; Tablets/smartphones.
III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP a. Objective: To create a fun, engaging atmosphere and lead into the lesson's main topic (Greetings). b. Organisation: - Teacher greets the class. - Teacher asks the students to watch an AI-generated video designed to support the lesson and answer the questions that appear in the video. - Teacher organizes the game "Pass the Ball". - Teacher uses a voice command to activate the classroom IoT smart speaker to play an upbeat English children's song and gives a small ball to one pupil. Pupils pass the ball to each other while the music plays. - Teacher stops the music suddenly. The pupil holding the ball stands up, waves their hand, and says loudly: "Hello!" or "Hi!". - Repeat the game 4-5 times to get pupils excited and comfortable speaking out loud. - Teacher asks pupils to open their books at Unit 1, Lesson 1. Tell pupils they will learn how to greet and introduce themselves in English today. |
- Pupils greet the teacher. - Students watch the AI-generated video and answer the questions about it.
- Pupils listen to the instructions. - Pupils pass the ball around the class while listening to the music.

Activity 2: Listen, point and say. a. Objective: To correctly say the characters’ names and use Hello. / Hi. I’m ____. and Hello, / Hi, ____. I’m ____. to greet, self-introduce and respond to greetings. b. Organisation: - Draw pupils’ attention to Pictures a and b. Elicit the name of each character.
- Teacher activates a drag-and-drop digital interface. Plays the recording from sachmem.net. - Teacher invites pupils to the smartboard to physically touch and match the digital speech bubbles to the correct characters.
- Divide the class into two groups to take turns repeating each character’s speech in Picture a until confident. Remind them to point at the relevant character. Repeat with Picture b. - Give pupils time to work in pairs and take turns acting out the role of each character in Picture a and b. - Invite a few pairs to act out the roles at the front of the class. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils identify the characters. Picture cues: a. Ben, a British male pupil, and Mai, a Vietnamese female pupil, greet each other. b. Minh, a Vietnamese male pupil, and Lucy, a British female pupil, greet each other. - Pupils listen and repeat the names after the recording. - Pupils go to the interactive board, using their fingers to drag and drop digital text boxes to the correct characters while eliciting missing words. - Group 1 and Group 2 take turns repeating the speech while pointing at the characters.

Activity 4: Listen and circle. a. Objective: To listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which two pupils greet, self-introduce and respond to greetings and circle the correct pictures. b. Organisation: - Draw pupils’ attention to Pictures 1a and 1b. Elicit the names.
- Teacher sends a digital quiz link (sachmem.net) to the classroom tablets. Play the recording for Question 1, then Question 2.
- Play the recording again to check answers together. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to double-check. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils observe the pictures, identify characters. Picture cues: 1a. Lucy and Ben first meet each other. 1b. Lucy and Minh first meet each other. 2a. Ben and Mai first meet each other. 2b. Tell them to pay attention to pronunciation and melody. - Play line by line for pupils to listen, repeat, and point at the relevant character. Correct pronunciation. - Introduce actions (e.g., waving hand). Play the recording for pupils to sing and do actions. - Give pupils time to practise in pairs or groups. Invite groups to perform at the front. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |

Next to the picture, write a speech bubble saying 'Hello. I'm [Your Name]' or 'Hi. I'm [Your Name]'." - Speaking Task: ""When you finish, ask your parents to help you use a smartphone to record a short digital video of you holding your card and introducing yourself to your parents or siblings using the English sentence you just wrote." - Teacher tells pupils to bring their cards to the next class to show their friends. * CONSOLIDATION - Teacher reviews the main structures: Hello / Hi.
