PERIOD 2 - B. THE ALPHABET

   

I. OBJECTIVES 

1. Knowledge and skills 

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Identify the letters of the alphabet by correctly pointing at, singing and performing The alphabet song with the correct pronunciation and melody.
  • Identify and complete the missing letters of the alphabet.
  • Count the letters in the target names (BEN, MARY, LINDA).

2. Competences

  • Critical thinking and creativity: count the letters in names and identify the correct alphabetical order.
  • Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks and perform actions for the song.
  • Self-control & independent learning: perform pronunciation and singing tasks confidently.
  • Digital Competences:

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To create a fun, engaging atmosphere and gently introduce the alphabet through a mini-game.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher greets the class. 

- Teacher asks the students to watch an AI-generated video designed to support the lesson and answer the questions that appear in the video.

- Teacher introduces mission: "Pass the Ball" (Alphabet edition)

- Teacher asks the class to stand in a big circle or pass a soft ball around their desks, teacher uses a voice command to activate an AI virtual assistant (e.g., "Hey Google, play a lively children's song"). 

- When the teacher stops the music, the pupil holding the ball has to say one English letter they already know, or simply say their name.

- Teacher praises the pupils to encourage them.

- Teacher introduces the new lesson: "Today, we are going to learn the English alphabet!"

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils greet the teacher.

- Students watch the AI-generated video and answer the questions about it.



 

   

- Pupils observe the teacher interacting with the AI voice assistant (IoT/AI device) and listen to the music.

Activity 1: Listen, point and sing.

a. Objective: To identify the letters of the alphabet by correctly pointing at, singing and performing The alphabet song with the correct pronunciation and melody.

Activity 2: Read and complete.

a. Objective: To identify and complete the missing letters of the alphabet.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the incomplete alphabet. Points at the letters for pupils to read, then elicits each missing letter and gives feedback.

- Teacher gives pupils time to do the task individually or in pairs. Goes around the classroom to offer support where necessary.

- Teacher invites a pupil to stand up and say the missing letters. Corrects their pronunciation where necessary. Writes the answers on the board for the class to check their answers.

   

- Extension: Have the class sing The alphabet song a few times.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

   

   

   

   

- Pupils observe the alphabet chart, read the letters, and try to find the missing ones.

   

- Pupils work individually or in pairs to fill in the blanks.



 

- Selected pupils stand up and read the missing letters out loud.

- Pupils check the answers on the board.

3. PRACTICE

a. Objective: To consolidate the alphabet sequence and the skill of counting letters in words through a focused, independent written exercise.

b. Organisation: 

Mission 1: "Alphabet & Numbers Worksheet"

- Teacher hands out a small printed worksheet (or writes on the board) containing two short tasks.

Task 1: Write the missing letters.

Task 2: Count the letters and write the number.

- Teacher gives pupils 4 - 5 minutes to complete the tasks individually in silence. Goes around the classroom to monitor, encourage, and offer support to weaker pupils.

- Teacher invites some pupils to go to the board to write down their answers.

   

   

   

   

   

   

- Teacher checks the answers with the whole class, corrects pronunciation if pupils read the letters aloud, and praises them for their hard work.

Mission 2: Complete the quiz (optional).

- Teacher calls out pupils to share their answers and explain the correct ones.
