UNIT 2: OUR NAMES
Lesson 3 (2 periods)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Correctly repeat the sounds of the letters m and n in isolation, in the words Mary and Nam, and in the sentences I’m Mary. and My name’s Nam. with the correct pronunciation and intonation.
- Identify the target words Mary and Nam while listening.
- Say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation.
- Read and match three dialogues with pictures.
- Read, understand and complete an exchange with personal information.
- Make paper birthday cakes and use them to introduce names and ages.
2. Competences
- Critical thinking and creativity: learn how to introduce their names and ages confidently.
- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks (chanting, reading, and project).

2. PRESENTATION Activity 1: Listen and repeat. a. Objective: To correctly repeat the sounds of the letters m and n in isolation, in the words Mary and Nam, and in the sentences I’m Mary. and My name’s Nam. with the correct pronunciation and intonation. b. Organisation: - Teacher has pupils look at the letter m, listen to the recording from sachmem.net and repeat the letter until they feel confident. Correct pronunciation if necessary. - Have pupils point to the word Mary, listen to the recording and repeat the word. - Get pupils to point to the sentence I’m Mary., listen to the recording and repeat it several times. Call on a few pupils to read in front of the class. - Repeat Steps 1 to 3 for the letter n (Nam, My name's Nam.). - Teacher has pupils look at the letter m. Teacher projects an AI-powered pronunciation assessment tool (eg., Native Speech,...) on the smartboard. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the letter m, listen and repeat.
- Pupils point to the word Mary, listen and repeat. - Pupils point to the sentence, listen and repeat. Selected pupils read aloud.
- Pupils repeat the procedure for the letter n. - Pupils read aloud into the smartboard microphone and observe the AI visual feedback (e.g., a smiley face for correct pronunciation). |

Activity 3: Let’s chant. a. Objective: To say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation. b. Organisation: - Have pupils scan the first verse and elicit its subject. Draw attention to the word Mary. Check comprehension. - Play the digital animated video of the chant from sachmem.net all the way through for pupils to listen. Encourage them to listen carefully to the rhythm and pronunciation. - Play the recording of the whole verse again for choral and individual repetition. - Repeat Steps 1 to 3 for the second verse.
- Extension: Split the class into two groups to practise chanting and clapping hands. Each group sings one verse. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils scan the verse and answer teacher's questions.
- Pupils watch the animated digital video and listen to the whole chant, paying attention to rhythm and the sounds.
- Pupils chant in chorus and individually. - Pupils practise the second verse. - Groups perform the chant with clapping.

Activity 5: Let’s write. a. Objective: To read, understand and complete an exchange with personal information. b. Organisation: - Have pupils read the dialogue. Ask questions (Who asks the questions? etc.). Remind them to write their own personal information. - Give pupils time to write the answers independently. Go around and help. - Get pupils to swap books and check answers. Invite 1-2 pupils to type their answers into a digital document projected on the board.
- Ask some pairs to role-play the dialogue in front of the class. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils read the dialogue and understand the task.
- Pupils write their name and age independently. - Invited pupils use the computer keyboard to type their personal information (Name and Age) into the projected digital document. - Pairs role-play the dialogue.

3. PRACTICE a. Objective: To consolidate reading comprehension and writing skills focusing on the target words (Nam, Mary, eight) and structures (I'm / My name's...). b. Organisation: Mission 1: "Read and Complete the Name Cards" - Teacher hands out a printed worksheet containing 3 small "Name Cards" exercises.
- Teacher explains the requirement: Pupils must read the short introductions and fill in the missing letters or words to complete the Name Cards. - Worksheet Content: + Card 1: Read: "Hello. My name's Nam. I'm eight years old." => Name: N _ _ => Age: _ _ _ _ _ + Card 2: Read: "Hi. I'm Mary. I'm eight years old." => Name: M _ _ _ => Age: _ _ _ _ _ + Card 3: Read: "Now write about YOU!" => Name: ............................... => Age: ................................ - Teacher gives pupils 5 minutes to complete the worksheet independently. - Teacher goes around to observe and help weaker pupils. Remind them to capitalize the first letter of the names (M, N). - Teacher calls 2 pupils to the board to write their answers for Card 1 and 2.
- For Card 3, teacher invites 2-3 pupils to stand up and read their own completed information loudly. - Teacher checks, gives feedback, and corrects spelling mistakes if any. Mission 2: Complete the quiz (optional). - Teacher sends link the quiz on website kenhhoctap for student to perform. - Teacher gives pupils 5 minutes to choose the correct answer. - Teacher calls out pupils to share their answers and explain the correct ones. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
