UNIT 3: OUR FRIENDS
Lesson 1 (2 periods)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on introducing someone.
- Correctly say the characters’ names and use "This is / That's _____." to introduce someone.
- Enhance the correct use of "This is / That's _____." to introduce someone in a freer context.
- Listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which pupils introduce someone and respond to the introduction and tick the correct pictures.
- Complete four target sentence patterns in two dialogues with the help of picture cues.
- Sing the song "This is Linh." with the correct pronunciation and melody.

- Student’s aids: Tiếng Anh 3 Global Success Student’s book; Workbook; Notebook; Tablets/Smartphones.
III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP a. Objective: To create an engaging atmosphere, review characters' names, and smoothly lead into the new lesson about introducing someone. b. Organisation: - Teacher greets the class. - Teacher asks the students to watch an AI-generated video designed to support the lesson and answer the questions that appear in the video. - Teacher organises the game "Hidden Picture". Teacher slowly uncovers pictures of familiar book characters (Mai, Ben, Mr Long, Ms Hoa).
- Teacher asks pupils to guess the character's name as the picture is revealed. - When the picture is fully revealed, teacher models the target sentence to lead into the lesson: "Look! This is Mai." or "That's Mr Long." - Teacher introduces the new lesson: Unit 3 - Our friends, Lesson 1. |
- Pupils greet the teacher. - Students watch the AI-generated video and answer the questions about it.
- Pupils look at the screen/board and eagerly try to guess the character's name.
- Pupils listen to the teacher's model sentences and become familiar with the new structure. - Pupils open their books and listen to the teacher's introduction. |

Activity 2: Listen, point and say. a. Objective: To correctly say the characters’ names and use This is / That's _____ to introduce someone. b. Organisation: - Teacher has pupils look at the pictures and elicit the names of the characters.
- Teacher has pupils point at Picture a, listen to the recording from sachmem.net and repeat the word (Ben). Repeat the same procedure with the other three pictures. Have the class repeat the words a few times. - Teacher points at Picture a and has pupils listen and repeat after the recording (This is Ben.). Point at Picture c and have pupils listen and repeat after the recording (That’s Mr Long.). Repeat the same procedure with Pictures b and d by modelling the sentence patterns. - Teacher introduces a simple AI-powered pronunciation checking app (eg., Native Speech,...) on the classroom tablets and guides students on how to use it to practice their speaking.
- Teacher has pupils work in pairs to practise saying This is _____. and That's _____. - Teacher invites a few pairs to point at the pictures and introduce the characters in front of the class. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the pictures and say the characters' names. Picture cues: a. Ben, a British male pupil b. Mai, a Vietnamese female pupil c. Mr Long, a Vietnamese male teacher d. Ms Hoa, a Vietnamese female teacher - Pupils listen and repeat the character names.
- Pupils point at the pictures, listen and repeat the target sentences.
- Pupils use the tablet's microphone to speak the target sentences into the AI pronunciation app and observe the AI's visual feedback (such as stars or a pronunciation score). - Pupils work in pairs to practise the sentences.

Activity 4: Listen and tick. a. Objective: To listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which pupils introduce someone and respond to the introduction and tick the correct pictures. b. Organisation: - Teacher pushes a digital quiz (sachmem.net) to the pupils' tablets, or displays it on the smartboard. Play the recording for Question 1.
- Teacher plays the recording again for pupils to do the task. Play the recording a third time to give pupils another listening opportunity. - Teacher repeats for Pictures 2a and 2b. - Teacher uses the digital platform to instantly display the class's collective results and correct answers on the board. Play the recording for pupils to check their answers again. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the digital pictures and identify the characters. - Pupils listen to the audio and use their fingers to tap and select the correct checkbox on their touch screens. Picture cues: 1a. Mai introduces Minh to Bill. 1b. Mai introduces Nam to Bill. 2a. Linh introduces Ms Hoa to Ben. 2b. Linh introduces Mr Long to Ben. - Pupils listen again to double-check their answers.

Activity 6: Let's sing. a. Objective: To sing the song This is Linh. with the correct pronunciation and melody. b. Organisation: - Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the title and lyrics of the song. Check comprehension and give feedback. - Teacher plays a 3D animated educational video featuring AI-generated characters singing "This is Linh." fromsachmem.net. Encourage pupils to listen to the melody and watch the characters' actions. - Teacher plays the recording line by line for pupils to listen and repeat. Correct their pronunciation where necessary. - Teacher plays the recording all the way through for pupils to sing along. - Teacher introduces actions for pupils to do while singing along with the recording. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils read the title and lyrics of the song.

- Teacher instructs pupils: "At home, use a digital device (tablet/computer) to draw your family/friend digitally (eg., MS Paint, tablet drawing canvas...). Practise introducing them using 'This is...' or 'That's...'"
- Teacher reminds them to bring their pictures to class to present them at Project time in the upcoming lessons. CONSOLIDATION - Teacher reviews and summarizes the main points of the lesson. - Teacher comments on and evaluates pupils' participation. ADVICE - Review the vocabulary and sentence structures learned today. - Complete the drawing and speaking application task. - Prepare for Unit 3 - Lesson 2. |
- Pupils listen to the instructions for the home task. - Pupils write down their homework requirements: + Use a tablet or computer drawing app at home to express themselves by drawing a digital portrait of their family member or friend. + Practise saying "This is / That's..." to introduce the person in the drawing. - Pupils prepare to bring the picture for the next lessons.
- Pupils listen to the summary of the lesson. - Pupils listen to the teacher's feedback.
