UNIT 1: HELLO
Lesson 3 (2 periods)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Correctly repeat the sounds of the letters h and b in isolation, in the words hello and bye, and in the sentences Hello, Ben. and Bye, Ben. with the correct pronunciation and intonation.
- Identify the target words hello and bye while listening.
- Say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation.
- Read four sentences and choose the correct responses.
- Read, understand and complete three exchanges with personal information.
- Make pupil cards, and use them to practise talking to classmates.

- Critical thinking and creativity: Learn how to correctly spell and pronounce basic greetings, and creatively design their own pupil cards.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP a. Objective: To creatively review the target words (hello, bye) and initial letters (h, b) by expressing them through different emotions and tones of voice. b. Organisation: - Teacher greets the class. - Teacher asks the students to watch an AI-generated video designed to support the lesson and answer the questions that appear in the video. - Teacher introduces mission: "The Magic Emotion Map" - Teacher displays a colourful "Emotion Map" on the Interactive Smartboard with 3 distinct feeling zones: Happy, Sleepy, and Robot.
- Teacher holds up two flashcards: the letter h (for Hello) and the letter b (for Bye). - Teacher explains the rule: When the teacher points to a zone on the Emotion Map and holds up a letter, the class must say the word with that specific emotion/voice. + Example 1: Teacher points to "Happy" + holds letter "h" à Pupils smile brightly, wave fast, and shout loudly: "Hello!" + Example 2: Teacher points to "Sleepy" + holds letter "b" à Pupils stretch, yawn, wave slowly, and say sleepily: "Bye..." + Example 3: Teacher points to "Robot" + holds letter "h" à Pupils do stiff robot arms and say in a robotic voice: "He-llo." Teacher utilizes a simple AI Voice Modulation tool (eg., Narakeet,...) on the computer to output a robotic voice reading "He-llo" as a model. - Invite 1-2 pupils to come to the front and be the "Map Master". They will point to the map and hold the cards to lead the class. - Lead-in: "You are all amazing actors! You did the sounds of h and b perfectly. Now, let's open our books and see how Ben and Lucy say Hello and Bye!" |
- Pupils greet the teacher. - Students watch the AI-generated video and answer the questions about it.
- Pupils look at the Emotion Map on the Smartboard and identify the 3 zones.

Activity 2: Listen and circle. a. Objective: To identify the target words hello and bye while listening. b. Organisation: - Draw pupils’ attention to the sentences and the gap-fill options. Play the recording for Sentence 1. Play the recording again for pupils to listen and circle the correct option on their interactive tablet screen from sachmem.net. Repeat the same procedure with Sentence 2. - Get pupils to swap books with a partner, then check the answers together as a class. Write the correct answers on the board. Play the recording for pupils to check their answers again. - Extension: Invite one or two pupils to stand up, listen and repeat the completed sentences. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the gapped sentences and the options (a, b, c). - Pupils listen to the recording and use their fingers/stylus to circle the correct answers digitally.

Activity 4: Read and circle. a. Objective: To read four sentences and choose the correct responses. b. Organisation: - Draw pupils’ attention to Sentence 1. Get pupils to read the sentence together as a class. Elicit the answer and give feedback. Circle the letter b on the smartboard from sachmem.net. - Give pupils time to do the task on their digital worksheet. Go around the classroom to offer support where necessary.
- Get pupils to swap books with a partner, then check answers together as a class. Write the correct answers on the board for pupils to correct their answers. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils read Sentence 1 and observe the teacher's example on the smartboard.

Activity 6: Project. a. Objective: To make pupil cards, and use them to practise talking to classmates. b. Organisation: - Display the pupil card sample on the board. Write the presentation language on the board. Check comprehension and give feedback. Have pupils repeat the sentences until they can say the sentences by themselves. Model the presentation for a few times.
- Invite a pupil to the front of the classroom to perform the presentation. Watch and offer your support with the language. - Put pupils into groups to rehearse their presentations. Go around the classroom to offer support where necessary. - Invite a few pupils from different groups to show and talk about their pupil cards in front of the classroom. - Extension: Create a class display of pupil cards and vote for the best decorated one. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |

4. APPLICATION a. Objective: To creatively apply basic greetings (Hello, Bye) and personal introduction (I'm...) in a fun, interactive parent-child role-play at home. b. Organisation: Mission: "Finger Puppet Show" - Teacher shows a simple "Finger Puppet" (a small paper face wrapped around the index finger, or simply a happy face drawn on the finger). - Teacher sets the creative homework task: "Tonight, you will make a mini puppet show with your mother or father!" - Explain the steps to pupils:
+ Make 2 simple finger puppets (one for you, one for your mom/dad). + Perform a short and fun dialogue. Keep it very basic: Pupil's puppet: Hello, Mom/Dad. I'm [Name]. Mom/Dad's puppet: Hello, [Name]. Pupil's puppet: Bye, Mom/Dad! Mom/Dad's puppet: Bye! - Encourage pupils to use funny voices (like a robot or a cute animal) for their puppets to make their parents laugh. - Teacher gives digital instructions: "Ask your parents to help you use their smartphone to record a short video or take a photo of your puppet show. Then, upload it to our class digital platforms.” - Teacher praises the pupils: "I can't wait to see your cute puppets next time!" CONSOLIDATION - Teacher reviews the sounds of the letters h and b, the words hello, bye, and the sentence structures. - Teacher comments on the pupils' performance and participation during the lesson. ADVICE - Practise reading the words and saying the chant at home. - Complete the "Finger Puppet Show" application task. - Prepare for Unit 2 – Lesson 1. |
