UNIT 1: IN THE SCHOOL PLAYGROUND

Lesson 1

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Pronounce the sound of the letter B/b in isolation correctly.
  • Pronounce the words Bill, ball, bike, book correctly.
  • Point to the correct letter, boy, and things and say the sound of the letter B/b and the words.

2. Competences

  • Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks.
  • Self-control & independent learning: perform pronunciation and speaking tasks.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To greet the class, introduce the textbook, and activate pupils' interest in learning English.

b. Organisation:

- Greet the class by saying 'Hi'. Introduce your name 'I’m _____.' (E.g. 'Hi. I’m Huong.').

- Encourage pupils to say their names.


- Show pupils and introduce 'Tiếng Anh 1 - Global Success - Sách học sinh' (e.g. the number of units, lessons, activities, and how the book is used).

- Teacher navigates the digital textbook (sách mềm) on the smart TV to show the book cover and Unit 1.

 

- Ask pupils if they have known any English words and if they like learning English.

- Have pupils open their books and look at Unit 1, Lesson 1.

- Teacher moves on to the next lesson.



 

 



- Pupils listen to the teacher's greeting and respond.

 

- Pupils stand up and say their names.

- Pupils look at the textbook and listen to the teacher's introduction.

 

- Pupils observe the digital textbook on the screen and recognize how to access digital learning materials.

2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1. Listen and repeat

a. Objective: Pupils will be able to pronounce the sound of the letter B/b in isolation and in the words Bill, ball, bike, book correctly.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils look at the picture (saying 'Look at the picture, please!') and describe it. Draw pupils’ attention to the letter B/b, the word next to Bill and other words next to the things and the colour of the letter B/b.

- Teacher uses an AI educational voice assistant on the computer to demonstrate the pronunciation of the letter B and the words, showing how AI helps in learning language sounds accurately.
- Ask pupils to point to the letter B/b. Have them listen and repeat the sound of the letter B/b (saying 'Listen and repeat, please!') more than once, if necessary.
- Tell pupils to point to Bill and the word Bill. Ask them to listen and repeat the word, saying 'Listen and repeat, please!'

- Repeat the same procedure with the ball, the bike and the book. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task.

- Play the recording again and have them listen, point to the letter B/b, Bill, the ball, bike and book and repeat until they feel confident.

- Call some pupils to say the letter B/b and the words in front of the class. Praise them ('Well done!').

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

Activity 2. Point and say

a. Objective: Pupils will be able to point to the letter B/b, the boy and the things and say the sound of the letter B/b and the words.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils look at the picture again, saying 'Look at the picture on Page 6, please!'. Draw their attention to the letter B/b, Bill and the things.

- Teacher open hoclieu.vn and demonstrates how to tap digital objects (Bill, ball, bike, book) to trigger their audio pronunciation.

- Get them to point to the letter B/b and say it, saying 'Point to the letter B/b and say, please!'.

- Let them point to Bill and say his name, saying 'Point to Bill and say, please!'.
- Follow the same procedure with other things.
- Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter B/b and the words. Go around and offer help.

- Invite some pupils to point to the picture and say the sound and the words in front of the class. Praise them ('Well done!' or 'Very good!').

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

3. PRACTICE

a. Objective: Pupils will be able to quickly recognize the learned vocabulary and reinforce their memory through a physical activity.

b. Organisation:

Game: Slap the board

- Write four words (Bill, ball, bike, book) or stick the flashcards with these words on the board. Tell pupils to look at the board.

- Tell pupils how the game is played: 'This game is played in a group of four people. When I say a word, you will run as quickly as possible to the board and touch/slap your hand on the correct word/flashcard. The quickest gets one point.'
- Say 'Are you ready? Now listen to me and let's play the game.' Call out the words randomly.

- Keep score on the board. The pupil/team with the highest score will be the winner.




 

 

 

 


- Pupils look at the four flashcards on the board.

 

 

- Pupils listen carefully to the teacher's instructions on how to play 'Slap the board'.

- Pupils divide into groups. Representatives from each group step up.

- Pupils listen to the word called out by the teacher, run, and slap the correct flashcard as fast as possible.

- The whole class cheers for their teams.

 

4. APPLICATION

a. Objective: To apply the learned vocabulary (letter b, ball, book, bike) to a creative, personal context suitable for Grade 1 pupils.

b. Organisation:

Mission: My 'B' Picture (Draw and Say)

- Teacher gives each pupil a blank piece of paper or asks them to use their notebooks.
- Teacher assigns the task: Draw one thing you like that starts with the letter B (a ball, a book, or a bike). Colour it nicely.

- Teacher models drawing a ball using a simple digital drawing application on a tablet or interactive board, guiding students on digital creation.

- After pupils finish drawing, teacher asks them to turn to their partner, point to their drawing, and say the word (e.g., 'A bike!').

- Teacher invites a few confident pupils to stand up, show their drawing to the whole class, and say the word loudly.

* CONSOLIDATION

- The teacher reviews and summarizes the main points of the lesson: the sound /b/ and words Bill, ball, bike, book.
- The teacher comments on and evaluates pupils' participation in the lesson, praising active pupils.

* ADVICE

- Practice saying the sound /b/ and the words at home with parents.
