UNIT 3: AT THE STREET MARKET

Lesson 2 (1 period)

   

I. OBJECTIVES 

1. Knowledge and skills 

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Say the sound of the letter A/a and the words apple, bag, cat, hat in a chant with correct pronunciation, natural stress and rhythm.
  • Listen, recognise the words (can, hat) and tick the correct boxes.
  • Trace the letter A/a (upper case and lower case) correctly and neatly.
  • Review the structure: "There’s a/an ___."

2. Competences

  • Critical thinking and creativity: Logically choose correct answers in tasks and creatively draw target vocabulary.
  • Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks (chanting, checking answers).
  • Self-control & independent learning: perform listening, speaking, and tracing tasks.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To energize the class and review the learned vocabulary (apple, bag, cat, hat, can) through movement and rapid naming.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher greets the class. 

- Teacher asks the students to watch an AI-generated video designed to support the lesson and answer the questions that appear in the video.

- Teacher introduces mission: "Freeze & Say"

- Teacher explains the rules: Pupils will stand up and dance/march in place while the teacher claps hands or plays a background melody.

- When the teacher stops clapping and shouts "Freeze!", pupils must freeze in their positions like statues.

- Teacher uses an AI-powered educational app to project flashcards of the target words (apple, bag, cat, hat, can) on the interactive smartboard and calls on a "statue" to name it.

- If the pupil says the word correctly, the whole class unfreezes, and the game continues for 4-5 rounds with other words.

- Teacher praises the class for their quick reflexes and introduces the new lesson.

- Pupils stand up, dance, or march happily according to the teacher's rhythm.

a. Objective: Pupils will be able to say the sound of the letter A/a and the words apple, bag, cat, hat in a chant.

Activity 4: Listen and tick.

a. Objective: Pupils will be able to listen, recognise the words and tick the correct boxes.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher projects an interactive digital version of the book on the smartboard. Have pupils point to the pictures of Question 1 and say what they can see. Draw attention to the boxes next to letters a and b.

- Invite some pupils to point to the pictures and say the words in front of the class (E.g. 1a: a can, 1b: an apple).

- Play the recording from sachmem.net of the first phrase. Say: "Now look at the pictures in Question 1. What can you see? Yes, a can and an apple. Now listen, please!"

- Ask pupils to say what they have heard and ticked. Say: "Did you hear 'a can' or 'an apple'? Yes, it said 'a can'. So tick box a."

- Follow the same procedure with Question 2. Give further support to those who find it difficult.

- Teacher invites a pupil to tap the smartboard screen to digitally tick the correct box for Question 1.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

- Pupils point and say the words aloud.

   

- Pupils look at the pictures carefully and listen to the audio.

   

- Pupils answer the teacher's question and tick box 1.a using their pencils.

- Selected pupils step up to tap the interactive smartboard screen to select and tick the correct digital boxes.

3. PRACTICE

a. Objective: To practice recognizing and tracing the letter a, completing the learned words, and matching them with the correct pictures.

b. Organisation:

Mission 1: "Trace and Match" (Worksheet)

- Teacher gives each pupil a mini-worksheet. The worksheet contains 2 columns:

+ Column 1 (Words with dotted letter 'a'): _pple, b_g, c_t, h_t, c_n.

+ Column 2 (Pictures in random order): a bag, a cat, an apple, a can, a hat.

- Teacher models the first word on the board. Write _pple (with a dotted a), trace the letter a with a colored chalk, say "Apple", and draw a line to the picture of the apple.

- Teacher asks pupils to use their pencils to trace the letter a in each word, say the word quietly, and draw a line to match it with the correct picture.

   

   

- Teacher walks around the class to monitor, check their handwriting (tracing), and give support to weaker pupils.

- Teacher checks the answers with the whole class by pointing to the pictures on the board and asking: "Number 1, what's this?" to elicit the choral answer from pupils.

- Teacher praises pupils for their neat tracing and correct matching.

Mission 2: Complete the quiz (optional).
