UNIT 2: IN THE DINING ROOM
Lesson 2 (1 period)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Say the sound of the letter C/c and the words cake, cat, car, cup in a chant correctly.
- Listen, recognise the target words (cat, car, cup, cake) and tick the correct boxes.
- Trace the letter C/c (upper case and lower case) correctly and neatly.

- Communication and collaboration: Work in pairs or groups to practice chanting and checking answers.
- Self-control & independent learning: Perform tracing tasks independently and recognize sounds.

2. PRESENTATION Activity 3: Listen and chant a. Objective: Pupils will be able to say the sound of the letter C/c and the words cake, cat, car, cup in a chant. b. Organisation: - Have pupils look at the chant, saying Look at the chant, please! Draw their attention to the letter C/c in the words cake, cat, car, cup. Check comprehension. - Let them look at the first line. Play the recording from sachmem.net, ask pupils to listen and repeat the sound of the letter C/c and the word a cup. Have them listen again and repeat individually and in chorus. Show them how to chant and clap their hands. - Play the recording all the way through again for pupils to do choral and individual repetition. - Put the class into two groups to practise chanting and clapping. Each group should sing one verse of the chant. - Encourage a few groups to the front to chant and clap. The rest of the class may clap along. Praise them, saying Very good! - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the chant in their books and identify the red letter C/c.
- Pupils listen to the recording, repeating the sounds and words.
- Pupils chant and clap hands following the rhythm.
- Pupils work in two big groups, taking turns to chant the verses.
- Selected groups perform in front of the class.

Activity 5: Look and trace a. Objective: Pupils will be able to trace the letter C/c (upper case and lower case). b. Organisation: - Have pupils look at the letter C (upper case) and c (lower case). Point and identify them. - Write the letters in broken lines on the board. Make sure pupils understand the difference between solid and broken lines. - Tell pupils to trace the letter C/c with their pencils. Demonstrate by air tracing first. Give support to those who need help. - Ask pupils to work in pairs and swap their books to check each other's answers. - Ask some pupils to show what they have done. Praise them (Well done!). - If time allows, invite some pupils to trace the broken lines on the board. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils observe the upper case and lower case letters.
- Pupils watch the teacher's demonstration on the board.
- Pupils practice "air tracing" with their fingers first, then use pencils to trace in their books. - Pupils swap books with their partners to check the handwriting.

4. APPLICATION a. Objective: To connect classroom learning with the home environment, encouraging natural mother-child/parent-child English interaction using simple vocabulary. b. Organisation: Mission: "Mommy, look! A..." (Home-based Task) - Teacher assigns a fun mission for pupils to do at home with their parents (especially mothers). - Task instructions: "When you go home today, hold your mom's/dad's hand, walk around your dining room or kitchen, and find 2 things that start with the letter C (like a real cup, a toy car, a pet cat, or a piece of cake). Point to it and proudly say: 'Mommy, look! A cup!'" - Teacher instructs: "Ask your parents to use their phone's Smart AI Camera (like Google Lens) to scan the object and listen to the robot voice say the English word." - Ask pupils to draw the 2 items they found at home on a piece of paper and bring it to the next class to share. * CONSOLIDATION - Teacher reviews the sound of letter C/c and the 4 target words: cat, car, cup, cake - Teacher comments on the class's energy and evaluates pupils' participation. Praise the whole class. * ADVICE - Remember to do the "Mommy, look! A..." task with your parents. - Prepare for Unit 2 - Lesson 3. |
