UNIT 1: IN THE SCHOOL PLAYGROUND
Lesson 3 (1 period)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Listen and repeat the sentences “Hi, I’m Bill.” and “Bye, Bill.” correctly.
- Greet each other and introduce their names with “Hi, I’m _____.”.
- Say goodbye to each other with “Bye, _____.” correctly.
- Sing a song with the structures “Hi, I’m _____.” and “Hi, _____, I’m _____.” with correct pronunciation, natural rhythm, and sweet melody.

- Critical thinking and creativity: Identify correct situations to use "Hi" and "Bye". Creatively apply the target structures with their real names and body language.
- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to practise greeting and saying goodbye.

2. PRESENTATION Activity 6: Listen and repeat. a. Objective: Pupils will be able to listen and repeat the sentences “Hi, I’m Bill.” and “Bye, Bill.” b. Organisation: - Have pupils look at the first picture, saying Look at the first picture, please! What is Bill doing? Yes, he’s greeting and introducing his name. He says “Hi, I’m Bill”. Play the recording from sachmem.net for pupils to listen and repeat, saying Now listen and repeat, please!
- Have pupils look at the sentence “Hi, I’m Bill.”, saying Look at the sentence “Hi, I’m Bill.”, please! Explain the meaning of the sentence and how it is used. Check comprehension. - Play the recording several times for pupils to listen and repeat the sentence, saying Now listen and repeat, please! Give more support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task. - Invite a few pupils to listen and repeat the sentence “Hi, I’m Bill.” in front of the class. Correct pronunciation, if necessary or praise them if they pronounced the sentence correctly, saying Well done! - Have pupils look at the second picture, saying Look at the second picture, please! What is the boy doing? Yes, he’s saying goodbye to Bill. He says “Bye, Bill.” Play the recording for pupils to listen and repeat.
- Have pupils look at the sentence “Bye, Bill.” Point to the sentence and say Look at the sentence “Bye, Bill.”, please! Explain the meaning of the sentence and how it is used. Check comprehension. - Play the recording again and let pupils listen and repeat the sentence “Bye, Bill.”, saying Now listen and repeat the sentence “Bye, Bill.” Encourage some pupils to repeat the sentence in front of the class. Go around and praise them if they performed well, saying Well done! Correct pronunciation to make sure pupils can repeat correctly the sentence. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at Picture 1 and answer the teacher's question. - Pupils listen to the recording and repeat “Hi, I’m Bill.”.
- Pupils pay attention to the meaning of the sentence.
- Pupils practice individually and in chorus.
- Selected pupils perform in front of the class.
- Pupils repeat the steps for Picture 2 and the sentence “Bye, Bill.”.

Activity 8: Let's sing! a. Objective: Pupils will be able to sing a song with the structures “Hi, I’m _____.” and “Hi, _____, I’m _____.” b. Organisation: - Have pupils read the lyrics to familiarise themselves with the first verse of the song. Say Now look at the first verse, please! Check comprehension. - Play the recording from sachmem.net several times for pupils to repeat line after line to make sure that they can sing the verse correctly. Say Now listen and repeat, please! - Have pupils read the lyrics to familiarise themselves with the second verse of the song. Say Now look at the second verse, listen and repeat, please! Play the recording several times for pupils to repeat to make sure that they can sing the verse correctly. Check comprehension. - Have pupils listen to the whole song, drawing their attention to the pronunciation, the stress and the melody of the song. Say Now listen to the whole song. - Let pupils practise singing the song. Help them sing the song sentence by sentence first. Then help them to sing the whole song. If there is time, let them sing the song several times or ask some pupils to sing the song individually. Praise them when they perform well, saying Excellent! - Teacher moves on to the next content. |

4. APPLICATION a. Objective: To apply the learned language into real-life daily routines, encouraging a simple mother-child dialogue at home. b. Organisation: Mission: "Little Ambassador at Home" - Teacher gives pupils a fun, small homework task. - Task: Tonight at home, pupils will act as "Little Ambassadors". + When meeting their parents, pupils wave their hands and say aloud: "Hi, I'm [Pupil's Name]". + Before going to bed, pupils wave goodnight and say: "Bye, Mum / Bye, Dad". - Teacher asks parents to record a short video (5-10 seconds) of their children practicing these sentences at home and send it to the class group.
* CONSOLIDATION - Teacher reviews the words "Hi", "Bye", "I'm...". - Commends the class for their effort. * ADVICE - Practise singing the song at home. - Remember to do the “Little Ambassador at Home” - Prepare for Unit 2 - Lesson 1. |
