PERIOD 01                                  UNIT 1: FAMILY LIFE GETTING STARTED

OBJECTIVES

Knowledge By the end of this unit, SS can be able to:

  • Get started with some language items in Unit 1
  • Use words and phrases related to household chores and duties
  1. Skills: To help learners get started with 4 skills in Unit 1
    • Reading: Read about the benefits of sharing housework
    • Listening: Listen to people talk about the roles of family members
  1. Educational aimss:

- To help Ss get started for Unit 1 with the topic "family life"

  • To provide Ss some motivation
  1. . TEACHING AIDS
    1. Teacher: textbook, lesson plan
    2. Students: - textbook, workbook, pen, pencil…

III.PROCEDURE

1.WARM UP

  1. Aim: - To create a friendly and lively atmosphere in the classroom

- To give Ss a chance to get to know each other then lead into the first unit

  1. Content: Ss introduce themselves and guess the topic
  2. Outcome: Possible answers:
  3. Organization:

- T call out any month of the year and have Ss born in that month come up to the front of the class then let them introduce themselves

- Then T put up a few images of families doing different activities and have SS guess the topic. After that, T  ask SS to open their books at page 8. Deaw their attention to the unit overview and briefly introduce the language and skill points, the communication and culture.

  1. PRESENTATION
  2. Aim: - To introduce the unit topic (Family life)

- To introduce some vocabulary and the grammar points to be learnt in the unit.

  1. Content: Look at the picture and answer the questions about it
  2. Outcome: - Give the answers.

- Listen to the recording and read silently after the recording.

Step 1: Transferring the learning task

-   T asks  Ss to look at the picture and answer the questions about it

-   Suggested questions:

+ Who are the people in the picture?

+ What are they doing?

- Play the recording.

- Ask students to listen and read.

- Explain new words if necessary.

Step 2: Performing the task

- Ss follow Teacher’s requirement

- Take note the vocabulary in notebook

-  Work individually

Step 3: Discussion

- Call one student to write answer infront of class, other students give comments

- T calls on two or three pairs of DD to read the conversation aloud

Step 4: Conclusion

- T gives comment for the answer, correct the answer if necessary

 III. PRACTICE

  1. Read the conversation again and decide wheter the following statements are true (T) or False (F)
  2. Aim: to check Ss’s comprehension of the conversation
  3. Content: Ss read the conversation again and decide whether the following statement are True or False
  4. Outcome:

- Co-operation: interact with the teacher find out the answers

- Communication: answer positively

- Ask students to work individually first and then in pairs to decide if the statements are true (T), false (F) or not given.

-   Encourage students to provide reasons for their answers.

-   Ask them to refer back to the conversation to get the necessary information.

- Ss follow Teacher’s requirement

-  Work individually, work in pairs

Step 3: Discussion

-   Call one student to write answer on board, other students compares the answers

Step 4: Conclusion

Check students’ answers and give explanations

Write the verbs or phrasal verbs that are used with the nouns or noun phrases in the conversation in 1

  1. Aim: to revise some collocations for household chores, consisiting of a (phrasal) verb and a noun (phrase)
  2. Content: Ss swrite the verbs or phrasal verbs thet aree used with the nouns or noun phrases in the conversation in 1
  3. Outcome:

- Co-operation: interact with the teacher find out the answers

- Communication: answer positively

- T asks Ss to read the nouns/ noun phrases in the right – hand column and asks What are they all about?

- T has SS read the conversatio quickly again, find these phrases and underline them then asks them to complete the table with correcr (phrasal) verbs

Step 2: Performing the task

- Ss follow Teacher’s requirement

-  Work individually to complete the tables

Step 3: Discussion

-   T calls one student to write answer on board, other students compares the answers

Step 4: Conclusion

-   T checks students’ answers and give explanations

-   T has Ss read ech sentences and encourage them to try to complete it with the correct form of the verb in brackets

-   T tells SS to finds the verb in the conversation if they don’t rememember them.

Step 2: Performing the task

- Ss follow Teacher’s requirement to do the task

Step 3: Discussion

-   Have them work individually then compares the result with each other

Step 4: Conclusion

-   T checks answers by first asking the whole classs to call out the verb forms only, then calling on individuall SS to read the complete sentences.
