UNIT 1: AT MY BIRTHDAY PARTY

Lesson 1 

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Correctly pronounce the name of the letter P/p and the sound /p/, both in isolation and in the words pasta, popcorn and pizza.
  • Correctly identify and pronounce the words pasta, popcorn and pizza.
  • Recognise target words while listening and successfully recall the position of the relevant pictures.

2. Competences

  • Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks.
  • Self-control & independent learning: perform pronunciation and speaking tasks.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To introduce the topic of the new unit and engage pupils.

b. Organisation:

- Write on the board Hello, I'm _____! Say "Hello, I'm _____!" Walk around the class, greeting pupils. Encourage them to answer "Hello, I'm _____!"

- Introduce the topic of the new unit by playing the song "Happy Birthday" and encouraging pupils to sing along.

- Say "Open your books at page 6 and look at Unit 1, Lesson 1."

- Teacher moves on to the next content.





 

- Pupils greet the teacher and say their names.

2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1. Listen and repeat

a. Objective: To correctly pronounce the name of the letter P/p and the sound /p/, both in isolation and in the words pasta, popcorn and pizza.

b. Organisation:

- Draw pupils’ attention to the picture. Ask questions to help them identify the context.

- Navigate the digital textbook platform on the smart TV to display the birthday party picture vividly.

 

 

- Have pupils point to the letter P/p. Explain that the name of the letter P/p is different to its sound.

- Play the recording of the name and sound of the letter P/p and encourage pupils to repeat. Do this several times.

- Have pupils look at the pasta. Then have them point to the word “pasta”. Draw their attention to the colour of the letter p (red).

- Play the recording of pasta and encourage pupils to repeat individually and in chorus.

- Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for popcorn and pizza.

- Play the recording in full and encourage pupils to repeat.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

- Observe the digital content on the smart TV and find how to access interactive elements when the teacher points.

Activity 2. Point and say

a. Objective: To correctly identify and pronounce the words pasta, popcorn and pizza.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils point to the letter P/p and correctly pronounce its name and sound.

- Have pupils point to and correctly pronounce the word pasta. Do this several times.

- Repeat Step 2 for popcorn and pizza.

- Open hoclieu.vn to let pupils touch the words and hear the pronunciation automatically.

- Put pupils into pairs or groups for further practice. Go around the class to offer help.

a. Objective: To recognise target words while listening, recall positions, and apply words to a real-life digital context.

b. Organisation:

- Say "You are going to play a memory game."

- Play Kim's Game. Nominate a pupil from each team to come up, remember the positions, and tap the correct digital card when the word is called.

- Count points and announce the winner.

Extension: Ask pupils to design their own "Birthday Menu".

* CONSOLIDATION

- The teacher reviews and summarizes the main points of the lesson (Letter P/p, /p/, pasta, popcorn, pizza).

- The teacher comments on and evaluates pupils' participation in the lesson, praising active pupils and encouraging those who are less active.

* ADVICE
