Activity 1: Listen and repeat.

a. Objective: To correctly pronounce the name of the letter R/r and the sound /r/, both in isolation and in the words rainbow, river and road.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the picture on the smartboard. Ask questions to help them identify the context.

- Teacher pushes a digital audio-visual file of the lesson to the pupils' tablets.

- Have pupils point to the letter R/r. Explain that the name of the letter is different from its sound.

- Teacher plays the recording of the name and sound. Encourage pupils to repeat individually and in chorus. Correct pronunciation and praise them.

- Have pupils look at the rainbow. Have them point to the word rainbow. Draw attention to the colour of the letter r.

- Teacher plays the recording of rainbow. Have pupils listen and repeat individually and in chorus.

- Teacher repeats Steps 4 and 5 for river and road.

- Teacher plays the recording in full. Encourage pupils to repeat the name, sound, and the words both individually and in chorus.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

- Pupils look at the main picture and describe what they see.

* Context:  a countryside scene with a rainbow, a river, a road, a woman riding a moped, and a girl riding a bike.

- Pupils unlock their tablets and open the shared lesson file.

- Pupils put on their headphones and adjust the volume safely.

- Pupils point to the letter R/r and notice the difference between its name and sound.

a. Objective: To consolidate word recognition of the target vocabulary using a very simple sentence completion format suitable for Grade 2.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher guides pupils to look at the picture, pick the correct word from the brackets, and write it carefully on their mini-whiteboards.

- Give pupils 2 minutes to complete the task.

- Check answers as a class and have pupils point to the board and read the sentences aloud.

Mission 2: Complete the quiz (optional).

- Teacher gives pupils 5 minutes to choose the correct answer.

- Teacher calls out pupils to share their answers and explain the correct ones.

- Teacher monitors and offers support.

- Teacher asks fast finishers to read the completed words aloud to their partners.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

- Pupils look at the screen, pictures and sentences. 

- Pupils carefully choose the correct word and write it down on their mini-whiteboards.
