Lesson 3 (1 period)

 

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • To use the sentence structures Is he/she ________ (verb + -ing)? and Yes, he/she is. / No, he/she isn't. to ask and answer questions about actions in progress.
  • To sing a song with the sentence structures Is he/she ________ (verb + -ing)? and Yes, he/she is. / No, he/she isn't.

  • Critical thinking and creativity: learn how to ask and answer questions about actions in the backyard correctly and fluently. 
  • Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks.

- Teacher greets the class.

- Teacher organizes an "Action Charades" game:

- The teacher uses a computer and projector to display AI-generated 3D flashcards of the target actions (flying a kite, riding a bike, playing with a kitten).

Activity 7: Let's talk.

a. Objective: To use the sentence structures Is he/she ________ (verb + -ing)? and Yes, he/she is. / No, he/she isn't. to ask and answer questions about actions in progress.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher writes Is he/she ________? on the board.

- Underneath the question, teacher writes Yes, ________. and No, ________.

- Teacher has pupils look at Picture a. Says “Is he...?” and encourages them to complete the sentence with “flying a kite”.

- Teacher says “Is he flying a kite?” and points to each of the possible answers written on the board and encourages pupils to choose the correct one.

- When they answer correctly, teacher confirms by saying “Yes, he is.”

- Teacher repeats the steps for Pictures b and c.

- Teacher has pupils work in pairs to look at each picture and practise asking and answering questions about the actions in progress.

 

 

 

 

- The teacher activates a basic AI voice-recognition application (eg., Native Speech,...) on the class tablet/computer. The teacher demonstrates speaking the target sentence into the microphone to get a "Green Check" for correct pronunciation from the AI.

a. Objective: To consolidate the sentence structures Is he/she ________? and Yes, he/she is. / No, he/she isn't. through a basic reading, matching, and writing exercise.

b. Organisation: 

Mission 1: Worksheet "Look, Match and Write"

- Teacher hands out a worksheet to each pupil. The worksheet contains 3 pictures and 3 incomplete dialogues.

- Picture A: A girl riding a bike.

- Picture B: A boy playing with a kitten.

- Picture C: A boy flying a kite.

Dialogues on worksheet:

1. Is he playing with a kitten? > Match to Picture ___

- Teacher explicitly models the first question on the board: asks pupils to look at the first question, find the matching picture (Picture B), and write the correct answer (Yes, he is.) on the line.
