UNIT 7: OUR FAVOURITE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Lesson 2 (2 period)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering questions about why someone likes a school activity.
- Correctly say the words/phrases and use "Why does he / she like _____? - Because he / she thinks it’s _____." to ask and answer questions about reasons for liking a school activity.
- Use "What school activity does he / she like?" and "Why does he / she like _____?" in a freer context.
- Listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which pupils ask and answer questions about the reasons why someone likes a school activity, and tick the correct pictures.
- Complete two gapped dialogues with the help of picture cues.
- Review the target language by playing the game Making sentences and doing extension activities.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP a. Objective: To create an engaging atmosphere, revise the school activities from Lesson 1, and lead into the new lesson (asking Why). b. Organisation: - Teacher greets the class. - Teacher asks the students to watch an AI-generated video designed to support the lesson and answer the questions that appear in the video. - Teacher divides the class into 2 teams (Team A and Team B). - Teacher invites one pupil from Team A to the front and secretly shows a flashcard of a school activity (e.g., read books, play basketball, do projects). - The pupil must mime the action without speaking. - The rest of the class asks: "What school activity does he/she like?" - The team that guesses correctly first (e.g., "He likes reading books!") gets a point. - After the game, Teacher asks a follow-up question to the mime: "Why do you like it?" to introduce the new structure with "Because...". - Teacher asks pupils to open their books at page 52, Unit 7, Lesson 2. Tell pupils what they will learn today. |
- Pupils greet the teacher. - Students watch the AI-generated video and answer the questions about it.
- Pupils listen to the game rules.
- Selected pupils come to the front and confidently mime the actions.
- Pupils observe carefully, ask the question aloud, and guess the activity.

Activity 2: Listen, point and say a. Objective: To correctly say the words/phrases and use Why does he/she like ____? - Because he/she thinks it's ____. to ask and answer questions. b. Organisation: - Teacher asks pupils to look at Pictures a, b, c, d and say what they can see. Remind them of like + verb-ing and elicit the meaning of the adjectives (fun, interesting, useful, good for group work). Have the class repeat the words. - The teacher shares a digital flashcard deck containing the target vocabulary and adjectives to the pupils' tablets via the class network.
- Teacher draws pupils' attention to the speech bubbles. Elicit the missing words. Play the recording for pupils to listen and repeat the sentences (Why does she like playing games? - Because she thinks it's fun.). Repeat with Pictures b, c, d. - Teacher lets pupils point at the pictures and say the sentences in pairs. Go around to offer help. - Teacher invites a few pairs to act out the exchanges in front of the class. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the pictures and describe the activities and adjectives.
- Pupils select routine digital tools by opening the shared digital flashcard deck on their personal tablets, collaborating with a partner to swipe through and practice the target phrases.
- Pupils practice saying the verb-ing phrases and adjectives with flashcards.

- Pupils work in pairs, point at the pictures and practice asking and answering. - Pairs act out the exchanges in front of the class. |

Activity 3: Let's talk a. Objective: To use What school activity does he/she like? and Why does he/she like ____? in a freer context. b. Organisation: - Teacher asks pupils to look at the pictures and elicit what each pupil is doing (doing a word puzzle, reading a book, solving a maths problem, doing a project).
- Teacher puts the class into two halves to take turns asking and answering. Then set a time limit for pair work. - Teacher invites a few pairs to the front to act out the exchanges. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils identify the activities in the picture cues.
- Pupils observe the teacher's model. - Half the class asks, the other half answers, then they swap.

Activity 5: Read and complete. a. Objective: To complete two gapped dialogues with the help of picture cues. b. Organisation: - Teacher uses Dialogue 1 as an example. Have pupils read it and guess the missing words based on the picture (a girl presenting a project). - The teacher sets up a shared digital document on the smartboard where the incomplete dialogues are displayed.
- Teacher repeats Step 1 for the second dialogue (boy solving maths). - Teacher gives pupils a time limit to read the dialogues, look at the pictures and fill in the gaps independently. - Teacher gets pupils to swap books with a partner and check answers. Invite pupils to write the answers on the board. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils follow the teacher's example and analyze the picture clues.
- Pupils show how to edit digital content by using their virtual keyboards to type the missing phrases (doing projects, solving maths problems, he thinks) directly into the shared digital document.
- Pupils work independently to write the correct phrases in the gaps.
