UNIT 8: IN THE PARK
Lesson 2 (1 period)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Say the sound of the letter H/h and the words hair, hands, head and hat in a chant correctly.
- Listen, recognise the words (a hand, a horse), and tick the correct boxes.
- Trace the letter H/h (upper case and lower case) correctly and neatly.

2. PRESENTATION Activity 3: Listen and chant. a. Objective: Pupils will be able to say the sound of the letter H/h and the words hair, hands, head and hat in a chant. b. Organisation: - Teacher has pupils look at the chant. Draw attention to the first verse (Hoa, head, hair) and explain its meaning. Ask them to pay attention to the letter H/h. - Teacher displays the dynamic karaoke-style lyrics on the smartboard. Play the recording of the first verse for pupils to listen and get familiarised with the rhythm. Play again for them to listen and repeat until confident. Show pupils how to chant and clap their hands.
- Teacher follows the same procedure with the second verse (Hoa, hands, hat). - Teacher plays the recording all the way through. Ask pupils to listen and repeat the chant individually and in chorus. - Teacher selects some pupils to the front of the class to chant and clap their hands. The rest of the class may sing along and clap. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the chant and understand the meaning of the verses.
- Pupils follow the highlighted words on the smartboard. - Pupils listen to the audio played by the smart device. - Pupils listen to the audio and repeat the first verse.
- Pupils practice the second verse and clap their hands rhythmically. - Pupils listen to the full chant and sing along.
- Selected pupils perform in front of the class confidently while others clap to the beat.

Activity 5: Look and trace. a. Objective: Pupils will be able to trace the letter H/h (upper case and lower case) correctly and neatly. b. Organisation: - Teacher has pupils look at the letter H(upper case) and h (lower case). Write them on the board.
- Teacher writes the letters in broken lines on the board. Make sure pupils understand the broken lines. - Teacher tells pupils to use their pencils to trace the letter H/h. Demonstrate by air tracing or tracing on the board first. Give pupils time to do the tracing. - Ask pupils to work in pairs and swap their tracing. Go around and offer help. - Teacher asks some pupils to show what they have done. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the board and recognize upper and lower case H/h.

4. APPLICATION a. Objective: To playfully apply the vocabulary (head, hat) to a creative drawing activity, encouraging speaking without pressure. b. Organisation: Mission: "Design a Funny Hat" - Teacher gives each pupil a pre-printed paper with a drawing of a simple head (just a face outline). - Challenge them: "Let's draw a beautiful or funny HAT on the head!" Give pupils 2 minutes to draw and color their hat. - Teacher models the activity: Holds up a drawing of a head wearing a big red hat, points to the parts and says: "It's a head. It's a hat!" - Invite pupils to stand up, show their drawing to their friends, point to their picture and say the words. - Call 3-4 confident pupils to come to the front, show their "Funny Hat" to the class, and present it. - The whole class claps for the most creative drawings. * CONSOLIDATION - Teacher reviews the chant and the traced letter H/h. - Teacher evaluates pupils' performance and praises neat writing. * ADVICE - Sing the chant at home and show your "Funny Hat" drawing to your parents. - Practice tracing letter H/h in your Workbook. - Prepare for Unit 8 - Lesson 3. |
