2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1: Listen and repeat.

a. Objective: To correctly repeat the sounds of the consonant clusters pl and cl in isolation, in words, and in sentences.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the consonant cluster pl, the word playground, and the sentence Let's go to the playground. Play the recording and encourage them to point at the letter/word/sentence during their listening.

- The teacher interacts with the digital textbook on the smartboard, tapping specific audio icons to navigate to the correct phonics tracks.

- Teacher plays the recording again and encourages pupils to listen and repeat. Do this several times until pupils feel confident. Correct their pronunciation.

- Teacher repeats the procedure with the consonant cluster cl, the word classroom, and the sentence Is that your classroom?

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

- Pupils look at their books and point to the corresponding letters, words, and sentences.

- Pupils visually follow the teacher's navigation on the smartboard to understand how digital audio files are accessed.

- Pupils listen to the recording carefully.

- Pupils repeat the sounds (/pl/, /cl/), the words, and the full sentences individually and in chorus.

Activity 3: Let's chant.

a. Objective: To say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the lyrics of the chant. Check comprehension and give feedback.

- The teacher plays the chant video on the smartboard. The teacher explicitly adjusts the speaker volume to a safe level and reminds pupils to stand at a safe, healthy distance from the screen while chanting.

- Teacher plays the recording all the way through so that pupils can listen to the whole chant. Encourage them to listen carefully to the rhythm. Draw their attention to the sounds of the consonant clusters cl and pl in the words classroom and playground.

- Teacher plays the recording line by line for pupils to listen and repeat.

- Teacher plays the recording all the way through for pupils to say the chant. Encourage them to clap along.

Extension: Divide the class into two or more groups to take turns listening to and repeating the chant.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

- Pupils look at the lyrics and the accompanying pictures.

- Pupils follow the safety instructions, maintaining a safe volume and a healthy distance from the digital screen.

- Teacher repeats Step 1 with the next gaps. Give pupils time to write the answers.

- Teacher has some pupils read their completed paragraph aloud.
