PERIOD 26: UNIT 4: MY NEIGHBOURHOOD

LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED

I. OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

1. Knowledge: Use the lexical items related to the topic “My neighbourhood”

Listen and read a dialogue about “a neighbourhood”,

2. CompetencesSelf-study; Problem solving, interaction.

3. Quality: Ss pay attention the lesson, study in a serious and strict manner and be self-conscious

II. TEACHING AIDS

Teacher: lesson plan, CD player, a multimedia projector.

Students: Text-books, notebooks, exercise books.

III. PROCEDURE 

1. WARM UP (5’)

a. Goal: to creat an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson then to lead into the new unit

b. CONTENTS: Play game

c. Expected result: Ss can remember the words they have learnt in unit 3

d. Performance: 

- T puts students into small groups then gives each group a handout with a table like this:

-T has Ss write down one word related to the topic friends for each letter in three minutes. Ss can use the words they learnt in Unit 3 and other words they know.

- The team with the most words win.

-T writes the unit title My neighbourhood on the board. T asks Ss to guess what they are going to learn about in this unit. After Ss give the answers, asks them to open their books to page 38. Draw attention to the box and introduce what they are going to learn in this unit.

2. PRESENTATION. (12’)

a. Goal: introduce new words

b. CONTENTS: new words relating to neighbourhood

c. Expected result: ss can understand and use new words:

3. PRACTICE. (17’)

a. Goal:  to help Ss to

- deeply understand the text

- know how to give directions through the conversation.

b. CONTENTS : Details of future houses.

c. Expected result:  Ss can know types of houses, the location and favourite appliances  in a future house

Ex 2: Find in the conversation the sentences used to make suggestions

Step 1: Transfering the learning task

-T tells Ss to refer back to the conversation to find the sentences used to make suggestions. T asks Ss to compare their answers before checking as a class

Step 2: Performing the task

- Ss do the task in pairs then compare answer with each other

Step 3: Discussion

- T ask one Ss to answer aloud and practise saying the sentences in pairs

Step 4: Conclusion

-T checks the answers as a class

Ex 3: Read the conversation again then tick T (true) or F (False)

- T asks Ss to work independently to order the actions in sentences (a- e) as they occur in the conversation.

-T intructs Ss how to do the exercise

(1) read each sentence and refer back to the conversation to find the actions it refers to

(2): order the actions

-T allows SS to share answers before discussing as a class

Step 2: Performing the task

- Ss do as appointed to do the task

Step 3: Discussion

- T selects one student to give his or her answers on the board

Step 4: Conclusion

- T praises them when they give the correct answers

Ex 4: Find and underline the following directions in th conversations

Step 1: Transfering the learning task

- T asks Ss to workindividually to find and underline the phrases used to give directions in the conversation.

- T move around the class to check if Ss do exactly what is required and offer help when needed.

- T has Ss quickly match each direction with the diagram

Step 2: Performing the task

- Ss do as requested to do the task then share the answers with their partner’s

Step 3: Discussion

-T calls on some Ss to write their answer on the board

Step 4: Conclusion

- T checks the answers and give explaination if necessary

4. PRODUCTION ( 9’)

a. Goal: to help SS practise giving directions

b. CONTENTS: Ss try to guess the places on the map based directions given

c. Expected result: ss can use target language to give directions

d. Performance

T divides the class ¡s divided into teams A and B. Team A give directions and Team B guess the place. If their guess is corect, they get one point. Then change roles. The group with the most points is the winner.

* HOMEWORK (2’)

- Learn by heart all the new words.

- Prepare: Unit 4: A closer look 1
