EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

   

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Identify five different countries (Viet Nam, Britain, Japan, Australia, America) through their maps and flags. 
  • Identify the different times in different countries and complete sentences. 
  • Read questions about geographical locations (near/far from Viet Nam) and tick the correct answers.

  • Critical thinking: Observe visual clues (flags, clocks, maps) to deduce information.
  • Communication and collaboration: Work in pairs to check answers and discuss.
  • Self-control & independent learning: Perform reading and writing tasks individually.

2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1: Look and write.

a. Objective: To identify five different countries in the pictures.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the pictures. Ask Where is Viet Nam? and encourage pupils to point to it. Write Viet Nam on the board.

- Repeat Step 1 for the other countries in the word box.

- Have pupils complete the activity by writing the correct name under each country. Check answers together as a class.

Activity 3: Read the questions. Then tick the answers.

a. Objective: To read the questions and tick the correct answers.

b. Organisation:

- Draw pupils’ attention to the question Which country is near Viet Nam? and read it as a class. Check comprehension.

- Ask pupils to look at Question 1 with three answer options a, b and c. Provide tablets and guides pupils to use a simple digital map application (e.g., Google Earth) to search for Russia, Thailand, and America to visualize their geographical distances from Viet Nam.

- Get pupils to swap books with a partner, then check answers together as a class. Write the correct answers on the board for pupils to correct their answers.

- Have pupils say the answers by asking them the two questions.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils read the question together and understand the meaning. 

   

- Use tablets to open a digital map, perform a simple search for the countries, and visually check their distances from Viet Nam.

- Tick the correct flag based on the map search.

4. APPLICATION

a. Objective: To apply the lesson's vocabulary (countries and time) into a simple, creative hands-on activity at home.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher assigns the home task: Draw a simple clock and a flag.

- Encourages pupils to use a basic digital drawing application (e.g., MS Paint, tablet drawing app).

- Ask pupils to set the clock to any time they like.

- Next to the clock, draw the flag of a country they learned today (e.g., Japan, America, Australia).

- Type one basic sentence below the drawing. Example: "In Japan, it's nine o'clock."

- Reminds them to bring the digital file to display on the smartboard next class.

* CONSOLIDATION

- Teacher reviews and summarizes the core vocabulary (Viet Nam, Britain, Japan, Australia, America) and the time structure.

- Teacher comments on and evaluates pupils' participation during the lesson.

* ADVICE

- Review the names of the countries and how to tell the time.
