I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Listen to and understand five communicative contexts and tick the correct pictures.
- Ask and answer questions using picture cues about time, drinks, countries, and abilities.
- Read and match pairs of target sentence patterns.
- Read and complete a gapped passage about Ben's routines.
- Complete a gapped text with the help of picture cues.

- Critical thinking and creativity: learn how to observe pictures and deduce missing information correctly and fluently.
- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks.
- Self-control & independent learning:perform listening, reading, and speaking tasks.

Organisation: - Draw pupils’ attention to Pictures 1a, 1b and 1c. Elicit the countries with the flags. Then play the recording for Question 1 from youtube.com.
- Play the recording again for pupils to do the task. Play a third time to check answers. Repeat for the rest of the questions. - Get pupils to swap books with a partner, then check answers as a class. Write correct answers on the board. - Play the recording again for pupils to double-check.
- Extension: If time allows, play the recording sentence by sentence for the class to listen and repeat in chorus. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils observe the pictures and identify the vocabulary (flags, actions, dates, routines, time). Activity 3: Read and match. a. Objective: To read and match pairs of target sentence patterns. b. Organisation: - Draw pupils’ attention to the sentences. Tell them how to do the activity. Prepare a drag-and-drop matching activity on the smartboard (e.g. SMART Notebook...) using basic sentence patterns. - Teacher points at Sentence 1, elicits the answer, and demonstrates how to digitally draw a line to match 1 with c. - Give pupils time to do the task individually. Go around the classroom to offer support.
- Teacher invites pupils to come to the board to complete the task interactively.
- Extension: Invite pairs of pupils to stand up and read the matched exchanges aloud. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |

Activity 5: Let's write. a. Objective: To complete a gapped text with the help of picture cues. b. Organisation: - Tell the class the goal: to read the gapped text and fill in the gaps using picture cues. Check comprehension. - Write the sentence with the first gap on the board. Read the sentence as a class. Point to the picture (the American flag) and encourage pupils to say the country (America). Give them time to write. - Repeat Step 2 for the other gaps.
- If time allows, invite a few pupils to read the sentences they have completed aloud. The class observes and praises.. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |

Use a basic voice recording application on your family smartphone or tablet to record your mother or father 3 simple questions we reviewed today." 1. When is your birthday? 2. What can you do? 3. What do you want to eat/drink? - Teacher reminds pupils to save the audio file and bring it to the next class to share with their friends. * CONSOLIDATION - Teacher reviews and summarizes the main sentence structures and vocabulary of the lesson. - Teacher comments on and evaluates pupils' participation and effort. * ADVICE - Review the vocabulary and sentence structures learned today. - Practice asking and answering about personal information with family members. - Prepare for the next lesson. |
