UNIT 7: OUR TIMETABLES
Lesson 1 (2 periods)
I. OBJECTIVES
1. Knowledge and skills
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
- Understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts in which characters ask and answer questions about what subjects they have.
- Correctly say the words (Vietnamese, English, maths, science) and use What subjects do you have today? – I have ___. to ask and answer questions about school subjects.
- Enhance the correct use of the target structure to ask and answer questions about school subjects in a freer context.
- Listen to and understand four communicative contexts and tick or cross the pictures.
- Complete four gapped exchanges with the help of picture cues.
- Review the target vocabulary items using the crossword puzzle.
2. Competences
- Critical thinking and creativity: learn how to ask and answer questions about school timetables correctly and fluently.
- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks (Let's talk, Let's play).
- Self-control & independent learning: perform pronunciation, speaking, and listening tasks independently.

2. PRESENTATION Activity 1. Look, listen and repeat. a. Objective: To understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts in which characters ask and answer questions about what subjects they have. b. Organisation: - Ask pupils to look at Pictures a and b on the digital screen and identify the characters. Ask Who is he / she? and Where is he / she?
- Ask pupils to look at Picture a. Play the recording from youtube for them to listen. - Play the recording again, sentence by sentence, for pupils to listen and repeat individually and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation where necessary. Repeat the same procedure with Picture b. - Invite a few pairs to the front of the class to listen to and repeat the sentences in the recording. - Draw pupils’ attention to the question What subjects do you have today? and the answer I have English and maths. Explain that they are used to ask and answer questions about what subjects pupils have. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the digital pictures and identify the characters (Minh and Mum).
- Pupils listen to the recording.
- Pupils repeat the sentences individually and in chorus.

Activity 3. Let’s talk. a. Objective: To enhance the correct use of the target structure in a freer context. b. Organisation: - Draw pupils’ attention to the picture on the screen. Ask questions to help them identify the context (a boy and a girl talking about school subjects with four textbooks).
- Elicit the missing words in the speech bubble and write them on the board. Get pupils to say the completed sentences. - Put pupils into pairs to practise the exchanges. Go around the classroom to offer supports where necessary. - Teacher distributes tablets to each pair and instructs them to use the camera/voice recorder app to record their role-play conversation.
- Preparation for the project: Tell pupils about the project on page 55. Ask them to prepare for it at home by making their timetables. Remind pupils to bring them to class at Project time. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils look at the picture and identify the context. Picture cue: a boy and a girl talking about school subjects with four textbooks (English, maths, Vietnamese, science) on a desk
- Pupils fill in the missing words verbally.
- Pupils operate the tablet, tap the record button, and film or record audio of their partner asking and answering questions about their real timetables. - Pupils take notes on the Project preparation.

Activity 4. Listen and tick or cross. a. Objective: To listen to and understand four communicative contexts in which pupils ask and answer questions about the subjects they have and tick or cross the pictures. b. Organisation: ………………………………………….. ………………………………………….. …………………………………………..

Activity 5. Look, complete and read. a. Objective: To complete four gapped exchanges with the help of picture cues. b. Organisation: - Model the gapped Exchange 1 on the interactive board. - Have pupils read the exchange and guess the missing word in the answer. Then draw pupils’ attention to the picture and elicit the name of the subject that can be used to fill in the gap (Vietnamese).
- Give pupils time to do the task independently. Go around the classroom to offer help where necessary. - Get pupils to swap books with a partner and check their answers before checking as a class. - Invite pupils to use a digital stylus to write the missing words directly onto the interactive smart board.
- Invite four pairs of pupils to act out four complete exchanges in front of the class. Correct their pronunciation. - Teacher moves on to the next content. |

3. PRACTICE a. Objective: To consolidate the core vocabulary and structures learned in the lesson through basic and focused exercises. b. Organisation: Mission 1: "Read and Write" (Mini-worksheet) - Teacher gives each pupil a mini-worksheet containing two tasks. Teacher projects the worksheet on the board and explains the requirements clearly. Task 1: Look at the table and complete the sentences. (Teacher creates a small table on the worksheet) - Nam: maths, English - Hoa: Vietnamese, science 1. A: What subjects do you have today, Nam? B: I have ________ and __________. 2. A: What ___________ do you have today, Hoa? B: I have Vietnamese and _________. Task 2: Reorder the words to make correct sentences. 1. have / What / you / subjects / do / today / ? > ___________________________ 2. have / I / Vietnamese / science / and/ . > __________________________ - Teacher gives pupils 4-5 minutes to complete the worksheet individually. - Teacher monitors the class and offers help to weaker pupils if necessary. - Teacher invites some pupils to stand up and read their answers aloud or write them on the board. - Teacher checks the answers with the whole class, corrects spelling and punctuation mistakes, and gives praise.
Mission 2: Complete the quiz (optional). - Teacher sends link the quiz on website kenhhoctap for student to perform. - Teacher gives pupils 5 minutes to choose the correct answer. - Teacher calls out pupils to share their answers and explain the correct ones - Teacher moves on to the next content. |
- Pupils receive the mini-worksheet and listen to the teacher's instructions.
