UNIT 11: MY HOME

Lesson 3 (2 periods)

   

I. OBJECTIVES 

1. Knowledge and skills 

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Correctly repeat the sounds of the letters i and ee in isolation, in the words big and street, and in the sentences They live in a big village. and They live in Green Street.
  • Identify the sounds of the letters i and ee in sentences while listening.
  • Say the chant with the correct pronunciation and rhythm.
  • Read a text and show understanding of it by circling the correct options.
  • Complete a gapped text about the place where pupils live.
  • Draw a picture of the place where pupils live and present it to the class, using the target language.

  • Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the listening, reading, and project tasks.

a. Objective: To warm up the class and introduce the two target sounds /ɪ/ (i) and /iː/ (ee) in a fun, interactive, and basic physical way.

2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1: Listen and repeat.

a. Objective: To correctly repeat the sounds of the letters i and ee in isolation, in the words big and street, and in the sentences They live in a big village. and They live in Green Street.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils point at the letter i, the word big, and the sentence They live in a big village. Play the recording from sachmem.net for them to listen and repeat in chorus and individually until they feel confident. Correct their pronunciation when necessary.

- Invite a few pupils to listen to and repeat the sound, the word and the sentence in front of the class. Praise them when their pronunciation is good.

- Repeat for the letters, the word and the sentence in the second line. Go around the classroom and correct their pronunciation if necessary.

- Let pupils work in pairs or groups, pronouncing the sounds, saying the words and reading the sentences until they feel confident.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

   

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils look at their books and point to the corresponding letters, words, and sentences.

- Pupils listen to the audio and repeat.

Activity 2: Listen and circle.

a. Objective: To identify the sounds of the letters i and ee in sentences while listening.

b. Organisation:

Activity 3: Let's chant.

a. Objective: To say the chant with the correct pronunciation and rhythm.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils look at the pictures and say what they can see in the pictures and predict what the chant will be about. Play the recording from sachmem.net and have pupils check their predictions.

- Have pupils read the first verse of the chant and draw their attention to the sounds of the letters i and ee, the words with the sounds such as live, in, Little, Bee, Green, and Street. Check comprehension.

- Play the recording of the first verse to familiarise pupils with the chant. Play the recording again, line by line, for pupils to listen and repeat. Draw their attention to the rhythm and pronunciation. Encourage them to clap hands while chanting.

- Repeat for the second verse of the chant. Draw pupils' attention to the sounds of the letters i and ee, and words with the sounds such as live, in, big, village, Little and Fish.

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to chant and clap along.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

Activity 4: Read and circle.

a. Objective: To read a text and show understanding of it by circling the correct options.

b. Organisation:

Activity 5: Let's write.

a. Objective: To complete a gapped text about the place where pupils live.

b. Organisation:

- Tell the class the goal of the activity and explain that they should read the gapped text and fill in the gaps with their own information. Explain that the gaps in the text focus on the place pupils live in. Check comprehension.

- Have pupils do the first gapped sentence together as an example. Ask them to read the first sentence and elicit possible answers (e.g. a big house; my family). Then have them write their answers in the gaps.

- Give pupils time to complete the text independently. Go around the classroom and offer help if necessary.

- Provide a shared digital board link (e.g., Padlet) for pupils to type their final answers.

- Extension: Invite one or two pupils to read their completed texts in front of the class. Check pronunciation if necessary.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

- Pupils provide ideas for the first gap.

 
 

   

   

- Pupils write their own information in the gaps.

3. PRACTICE

a. Objective: To consolidate the core vocabulary and phonics (/i/ and /ee/) through exercises.

b. Organisation:

Mission 1: Word Sort & Complete

- Teacher hands out a small worksheet (or displays it on the board) with 2 basic tasks.

- Teacher gives pupils 5 minutes to complete the tasks independently. 

                       

- Teacher asks pupils to swap papers with a partner to check.

- Teacher invites a few pupils to the board to write the correct answers and the class reads the completed sentences aloud to confirm.

Task A: Put the words in the correct columns.

(Word bank: big, street, live, green, village, bee)

Task B: Fill in the blanks using words from Task A.
