UNIT 6: OUR SCHOOL FACILITIES

Lesson 3 (2 periods)

   

I. OBJECTIVES 

1. Knowledge and skills 

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Correctly repeat the sounds of the letters s and es in isolation, as final consonants in the words mountains and villages, and in the sentences My school is in the mountains. and There are three villages near my school.
  • Identify the target words mountains and villages while listening.
  • Say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation.
  • Read a paragraph about a school and complete four gapped sentences about its location and facilities.
  • Read, understand and complete a gapped paragraph about their own school locations and facilities.
  • Draw their school and facilities and present their drawings to the class.

2. Competences

  • Critical thinking and creativity: learn how to describe their school's location and facilities.
  • Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the reading, writing, and project tasks.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To create an engaging atmosphere, activate students' energy, and review vocabulary (village, mountains, garden, playground, buildings) before starting the new lesson.

b. Organisation: 

- Teacher greets the class.

- Teacher asks the students to watch an AI-generated video designed to support the lesson and answer the questions that appear in the video.

- Teacher introduces the game “AI Voice Picture Race”.

- Teacher divides the class into 2 teams.

- Teacher opens a basic AI voice assistant on the smartboard, instructs a pupil from each team to come up and speak a target word clearly into the microphone (e.g., "Show me a playground").

- If the AI recognizes the word and displays the correct picture, the team gets a point.

   

   

- Teacher leads into the new lesson: "Today we will learn how to pronounce the ending sounds of these locations and write about our own school in Lesson 3."

   

   

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils greet the teacher.

- Students watch the AI-generated video and answer the questions about it.





 

   

- Pupils work in teams. The selected pupil steps up to the smartboard and speaks the target basic vocabulary word clearly into the microphone to activate the AI image search.

- Pupils observe the smartboard to see if the AI successfully generates or finds the correct image based on their pronunciation.

a. Objective: To correctly repeat the sounds of the letters s and es in isolation, as final consonants in the words mountains and villages, and in the sentences.

Activity 2: Listen and circle. 

a. Objective: To identify the target words mountains and villages while listening.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils read the incomplete sentences and options a, b, and c. Explain the task.

- Play the recording from youtube for pupils to listen and circle the correct options. Get pupils to swap books and check answers in pairs. Go through the answers with the class.

- Invite a few pupils to read the completed sentences aloud. Correct pronunciation.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils read the sentences and options carefully.

   

- Pupils listen to the recording and circle the answers.

- Pupils swap books to peer-check.

Activity 3: Let's chant. 

a. Objective: To say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation.

Activity 4: Read and complete. 

a. Objective: To read a paragraph about a school and complete four gapped sentences about its location and facilities.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils look at the incomplete sentences and guess what the reading is about.

- Ask pupils to read through the paragraph to get the gist.

- Ask pupils to read Sentence 1 and find the missing word from the paragraph. Repeat for Sentences 2, 3, and 4 independently.

- Have pupils swap books with a partner and check each other's answers.

   

- Select a few pupils to read the sentences in front of the class. Give feedback.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

   

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils predict the content of the text.

   

- Pupils read the text silently.

   

- Pupils work independently to find the missing words and complete the gaps.

   

- Pupils swap books and check answers with their partners.

Activity 5: Let’s write. 

a. Objective: To read, understand and complete a gapped paragraph about their own school locations and facilities.

Activity 6: Project. 

a. Objective: To draw pupils' school and facilities and present their drawings to the class.

b. Organisation:

- Point at the sample drawing and explain that pupils are going to talk about their drawings of their school.

- Have pupils show the drawings they have prepared. Revise vocabulary and sentence patterns. Give pupils time to practice.

- Give pupils time to use their drawings to practice presenting in groups.

- Select a few pupils to give their presentations in front of the class. Get other pupils to comment and give feedback.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils observe the sample project.

   

- Pupils prepare their drawings and review the target sentences.

   

- Pupils practice presenting their drawings in small groups.

- Selected pupils come to the front to present their school to the whole class.

a. Objective: To apply the learned sentence structures to describe their real-life school creatively at home.

b. Organisation:

Task: "Little School Reporter"

- Teacher assigns a fun homework task.

- Instructions: "At home, pretend you are a TV Reporter. Ask your parents to record a short video (about 1 minute) using a smartphone of you introducing your school. You can hold up the drawing from our Project (Activity 6) while speaking. Use the sentences we learned today: Hello, my name is... My school is in... There are... There is... I love my school!"

- Teacher explicitly instructs pupils to only upload the video to the closed, secure class Zalo/Google Classroom group

- Teacher encourages pupils to be confident and smile in their videos. Videos will be showcased in the next review lesson.

* CONSOLIDATION

- Teacher reviews and summarizes the main points of the lesson (Pronouncing s/es, reading and writing about school facilities).

- Teacher comments on and evaluates pupils' participation.

* ADVICE

- Review the vocabulary and sentence structures learned today.

- Complete the "Little School Reporter" video and send it to the class group.
