EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

   

I. OBJECTIVES 

1. Knowledge and skills 

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Read and match two reading texts with pictures of the countryside and the city, and identify the features of the countryside and the city.
  • Distinguish the features of the city and the countryside using target vocabulary (tall buildings, many people, a lot of trees, many fields, a lot of traffic, busy, noisy, quiet).
  • Revise the target vocabulary and sentence patterns by playing a Board game.

2. Competences

  • Critical thinking and creativity: distinguish between rural and urban features.
  • Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete reading tasks and play the board game.
  • Self-control & independent learning: perform independent reading and matching tasks.
  • Digital Competences:

+ [3.1.CB2a]: Identify simple ways to create and edit content in simple formats.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP

a. Objective: To create an engaging atmosphere and activate pupils' prior knowledge about the city and the countryside.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher greets the class.

- Teacher asks the students to watch an AI-generated video designed to support the lesson and answer the questions that appear in the video.

- Activity: "City or Countryside" Sorting Game: Teacher divides the class into 2 teams.

- Teacher shows flashcards quickly on the screen/board (e.g., a tall building, a cow, a traffic jam, a quiet field).

- Pupils must quickly shout "City!" or "Countryside!" depending on the picture. The first team to shout the correct answer gets a point.

- Teacher leads into the lesson: "Today we will learn more about the differences between the city and the countryside."

Activity 1: Read and match.

a. Objective: To read and match two reading texts with pictures of the countryside and the city, and identify the features of the countryside and the city.

Activity 2: Write a for countryside or b for city.

a. Objective: To distinguish the features of the city and the countryside.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher draws pupils’ attention to the words and phrases. Tells them about this activity and checks comprehension.

- Teacher does Question 1 together with the class. Reads the phrase in Question 1 aloud and elicits the answer (city). Has pupils write down the answer.

- Teacher gives pupils time to do the task individually. Goes around the classroom to offer support.

- Teacher gets pupils to swap books with a partner, then checks answers together as a class. Writes the correct answers on the board.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils look at the 8 phrases and ensure they understand the meanings.

- Pupils participate in doing Question 1 with the teacher and write down the answer.



 

- Pupils work independently to write 'a' or 'b' for the remaining phrases.

- Pupils swap books, check answers, and correct any mistakes.

3. PRACTICE

a. Objective: To consolidate the core vocabulary about the features of the city and countryside through exercises.

b. Organisation:

Mission 1: Read and Fill in the blanks

- Teacher distributes a worksheet to each pupil. The worksheet contains a word box and 5 incomplete sentences.

- Teacher explains the task: Read the sentences and choose the correct words from the box to fill in the blanks.

- Teacher gives pupils 5 minutes to complete the task individually.

   

   

- Teacher gets pupils to swap worksheets with a partner.

   

- Teacher calls on individual pupils to read the completed sentences aloud and writes the correct answers on the board. 

Worksheet content:
