UNIT 6: OUR SCHOOL FACILITIES

Lesson 2 - 2 Period 

   

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Knowledge and skills

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Ask and answer questions about the quantity of school facilities using How many ___ are there at your school? - There is ___./ There are ___.;
  • Listen to and demonstrate understanding of communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering questions about the quantity of school facilities;
  • Read and write about the quantity of school facilities;
  • Sing the song Gardens and buildings at my school with the correct pronunciation, rhythm and melody.

2. Competences

Critical thinking and creativity: learn how to identify and talk about the quantity of school facilities correctly.

Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks.

Self-control & independent learning: perform listening, speaking, reading, singing, and project tasks.

2. PRESENTATION

Activity 1. Look, listen and repeat.

a. Objective: To understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering questions about the quantity of school facilities.

b. Organisation:

- Get pupils to look at Pictures a and b and identify the characters in the pictures. Get them to say what they can see in the background.

- Teacher accesses the digital e-book platform to find and play the audio recording.

   

- Ask pupils to look at Picture a. Play the recording for them to listen.

- Play the recording again, sentence by sentence, for pupils to listen and repeat individually and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation where necessary. Repeat the same procedure with Picture b.

- Invite a few pairs to the front of the classroom to listen to and repeat the sentences in the recording. Correct their pronunciation where necessary.
- Draw pupils' attention to the question How many buildings are there at your school? and the answer There are three. Tell pupils that they are a question and an answer about the quantity of school facilities.




 

   

   

   

   

   

- Pupils look at Pictures a and b, identify characters (Linh and Bill), and talk about the background.

Linh: Where's your school, Bill?

Bill: It's in the town.

- Context b:

Linh: How many buildings are there at your school?

- Pupils look at the digital e-book on the screen and listen to the digital audio recording accessed by the teacher.

- Pupils look at Picture a and listen to the recording.

- Pupils listen and repeat the sentences individually and in chorus. Correct pronunciation if needed.

   

- Selected pairs come to the front, listen and repeat the sentences.

Activity 3. Let's talk.

a. Objective: To enhance the correct use of How many ___ are there at your school? and There is ___./ There are ___ . to ask and answer questions about the quantity of school facilities in a freer context.
 b. Organisation:

- Draw pupils' attention to the picture. Ask questions to help them identify the context (a school with two buildings, one playground, a computer room and a garden).

- Teacher guides pupils to use an AI Voice Recognition tool (e.g., Google Voice Typing) on tablets to practice speaking, allowing the AI to check their pronunciation.

   

- Elicit the missing words in the speech bubbles and write them on the board. Get pupils to say the completed sentences.
- Have pairs of pupils practise asking and answering the questions about the quantity of school facilities in the picture. Go around the classroom to observe and provide help.

- Invite some pairs to practise asking and answering questions about the quantity of school facilities in front of the class. Give them corrections and feedback where necessary.

Activity 4. Listen and tick.

a. Objective: To listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which characters ask and answer questions about the quantity of school facilities and tick the correct pictures.

Activity 5. Look, complete and read.

a. Objective: To complete target sentence patterns in two dialogues with the help of picture cues.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils look at the picture in Dialogue 1 and prompt them to ask and answer questions about the school's location.

- Give pupils 1-2 minutes to complete the gaps in Dialogue 1, then have them compare their answers in pairs. Monitor and help where necessary.

- Go through the answer with the class. Ask some pairs to read the dialogue aloud. 

- Repeat the same procedure with Dialogue 2. Encourage pupils to make use of the picture cues to fill the gaps.

- Teacher instructs pupils to log in securely and choose simple ways to protect their personal passwords.
 - The quiz contains 6 questions:
