UNIT 10. HOUSES IN THE FUTURE

LESSON 5. SKILLS 1

I.OBJECTIVES:

1. Knowledge: In the lesson, students will be able to read for specific information about the future house. They can draw a picture of their future house and PRACTICE talking about their bedroom in the future.

2. Competences: using language to talk about their future bedroom, co- operation, sefl- study.

3. Quality: They can develop their imaginary ability about a future house.

II. TEACHING AIDS:

- T: English room, slide projector

- Ss: do homework, ideas about their future homes

III. PROCEDURE

1. WARM UP: Chatting: (5’)

a. Goal: students can imagine and talk about their house and appliances in the future.

b. CONTENTS : Vocabulary about future house and appliances

c. Expected result: students can get a PRESENTATION about a future house and appliances

Step 1: Transfering the learning task

- T asks studensts some questions:

+ What types of future house would you like in the future?

+ Where will it be?

+ What might be there in your future house?

+ What might be there around your future house?

Step 2: Performing the task

- Listen and complete the exercise

Step 3: Discussion

- T calls on one student to write answer on the board, the other students compare and give comments

Step 4: Conclusion

- T sums up ss’ ideas

* Possible answers:

+ a hi-tech house/ a houseboat/ a sky raper…

+ It might be in Mars/ on the Moon/ in space…

+ there might be a super smart TV, a robot, a modern fridge…

+ There might be a swimming pool, a ardern, a green house…

2.PRESENTATION - Pre – Reading (8’)

a. Goal: students will learn some vocabulary, look at the picture and describe it.

b. Contents: Ss look at the picture, discuss with their partner and answer the pre- questions.

1. What type of house do you think it is?

2. Where do you think the house is?

3. What can you see around the house?

4. What can you see in the house?

c. Expected result: Ss understanding the vocabulary and answer the pre- questions well.

Step 1: Transfering the learning task

- Elicit some words and teach Ss to read in chorus => individually.

- Check their pronunciation

- Check Ss’ understanding by do matching

- Ask the class to look at the picture first. Encourage Ss to get the details/ ideas of the picture (type of house, location, surroundings and appliances). Then, tell Ss to work in pairs, asking and answering the questions provided.

Step 2: Performing the task

- Ss do as requested to complete the task

Step 3: Discussion

- Report the result to the class

Step 4: Conclusion

- Teacher monitors and gets feedback

Step 1: Transfering the learning task

? Ask Ss to read the text quickly and check their ideas in 1. Set a strict time limit to ensure that Ss will read quickly for the main information.

? Read the text again.

? Pay attention to the context of the words/ phrases: will be surrounded by, will help me (to) do, solar energy, surf the Internet, order food from…

? Then match the phrases in A with the correct ones in B.

- Ss do as requested to complete the task

Step 3: Discussion

- Report the result to the class

Step 4: Conclusion

- Teacher monitors and gets feedback

3. Read the passage again and answer the questions.

Step 1: Transfering the learning task

- Set a longer time limit for Ss to reread the text. Ask Ss to note or underline where they find the information that helps them answer the questions. Ss can compare the answers before discussing them as a class.
