UNIT 14: DAILY ACTIVITIES

Lesson 1 (2 periods)

   

I. OBJECTIVES 

1. Knowledge and skills 

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • Understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts focusing on asking and answering questions about when someone watches TV.
  • Correctly say the phrases and use "When do you watch TV? - I watch TV ___." to ask and answer questions about when someone watches TV.
  • Enhance the correct use of "When do you watch TV? - I watch TV ___." to ask and answer questions about when someone watches TV in a freer context.
  • Listen to and understand four communicative contexts in which pupils ask and answer questions about when someone does an activity, and tick or cross the pictures.
  • Complete four gapped exchanges about when someone does an activity with the help of picture cues.
  • Sing the song "When do you watch TV and read books?" with the correct pronunciation, rhythm and melody.

a. Objective: To create an engaging atmosphere and introduce the vocabulary of times of the day.

b. Organisation:

- Teacher greets the class.

- Teacher asks the students to watch an AI-generated video designed to support the lesson and answer the questions that appear in the video.

- Teacher asks the class to stand up. 

- Teacher introduces game: "Time Action"

- Teacher explains the rules: Teacher operates an AI Voice Assistant on the smartboard to randomly generate and announce times of the day (e.g., "Morning", "Evening"), pupils must quickly perform a matching action. (e.g., "Morning" -> stretching; "Noon" -> eating lunch; "Afternoon" -> reading a book; "Evening" -> pretending to watch TV).

- Teacher plays 3-4 rounds, gradually increasing the speed to make it fun.

   

- Teacher praises the class and leads into the new lesson: "Today we will learn how to talk about the time we do our daily activities." Teacher asks pupils to open their books at page 24, Unit 14, Lesson 1.

Activity 2: Listen, point and say.

a. Objective: To correctly say the phrases and use When do you watch TV? – I watch TV ______. to ask and answer questions about when someone watches TV.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils look at the pictures. Elicit the time of the day from pupils (looking at the clock and the sun in the pictures).

- Have pupils point at Picture a, listen to the recording from youtube and repeat the phrase in the morning. Repeat the same procedure with Pictures b, c and d. Have the class point at the time of the day and repeat a few times.

- Point at the first bubble and have pupils listen to and repeat after the recording (When do you watch TV?). Point at Picture a and have pupils listen to and repeat after the recording (When do you watch TV? – I watch TV in the morning.). Repeat the same procedure with Pictures b, c and d

- Teacher activates an AI text-to-speech tool (eg., Natural Reader,...) integrated into the slides to model native pronunciation of the structures.

- Set a time limit for pupils to work in pairs to practise asking and answering the question When do you watch TV? – I watch TV ______.

- Invite a few pairs to the front of the class to take turns pointing at the pictures and saying the questions and answers.

Activity 4: Listen and tick or cross.

a. Objective: To listen to and understand four communicative contexts in which pupils ask and answer questions about when someone does an activity, and tick or cross the pictures.

b. Organisation:

- Draw pupils' attention to the pictures and ask them to identify the activities and the time of the day by looking at the clocks and the sun or the moon.

- Play the recording from sachmem.net of the first dialogue for pupils to listen. Play the recording again for them to do the task by putting a tick or cross in the box. Play the recording a third time for them to double-check their answers.

- Repeat Step 2 with the rest of the dialogues.

- Organize the listening task on a digital learning platform for interactive numbering (eg., Wayground,...).

   

- Extension: If time allows, play the recording, sentence by sentence, for the class to listen and repeat individually and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation where necessary.

- Teacher moves on to the next content.

Activity 6: Let's sing.

a. Objective: To sing the song When do you watch TV and read books? with the correct pronunciation, rhythm and melody.

b. Organisation:

- Have pupils read the lyrics to familiarise themselves with the questions and answers. Encourage them to identify two activities (watch TV; read books) and the time of the day in the pictures. Check comprehension and give feedback.

- Have pupils listen to the whole song from sachmem.net, drawing their attention to the pronunciation and tune.

- Play the recording of the song once or twice for pupils to listen and repeat, line after line, and do related actions, e.g. using a finger to trace the words or clapping their hands.

- When pupils feel confident and are familiar with the melody, ask them to sing the whole song while doing actions or clapping hands.

- Invite a few groups to the front of the class to sing the song. The class may sing along to reinforce the activity.

Home Task: "My Activity Clock"

- Teacher explains the homework: "At home, draw a clock showing your favorite time to watch TV or read books. Next to the clock, draw a small sun or moon to show the time of the day. Below your drawing, write one complete sentence: 'I watch TV in the ________.' or 'I read books at ________.'"

- Instruct pupils to use a basic digital drawing app (e.g., MS Paint) on a home device OR use a safe, basic AI image generation tool (eg., ChatGPT, Gemini,...) by inputting a simple text prompt (e.g., "A cartoon clock at 7 AM") to create the visual for their project.

- Teacher tells pupils they will bring their drawings to the next class to show and tell their friends.

* CONSOLIDATION 

- Teacher reviews and summarizes the main points of the lesson (in the morning, at noon, in the afternoon, in the evening).

- Teacher comments on and evaluates pupils' participation.
